I've met Karen and her sister before, and most of my information comes from them. I believe I've met Annette once, too, on a trip to Texas about 10 years ago. My father is Johnny Neal, first son of Elsie Pruitt and John Cecil Neal. I have a lot of information on the Neal side, most of it overlapping with what Karen can provide. But I have very little information on the Pruitt side. What I know is basically what Karen stated in her post. John Cecil Neal first married Elizabeth Brasuell, then divorced her to marry one of his daughter's playmates, a 14 year old Elsie Pruitt in 1837. They had four kids, the last one, Jimmy, died as a baby from being dropped. The story is very personal and tragic, and the result is that John Cecil Neal divorced her and returned to his first wife, Elizabeth. The three remaining kids, ages approx. 1, 3, and 5, were raised in an orphanage until the age of 18. I never met John Cecil Neal, he died four months before I was born. I don't know anything about Elsie's history, not even her parent's names. I would love for someone to share any information they have on her. I can share what information I have on the Neal side. I found a few discrepancies that make it hard to trace, as you can see in the various spellings of Fouts I've posted! [email protected]
