    3. Shirley, I used Debra's instruction to find the cemetery and to look up the mile-long page of information. Most interesting. From the location given, I will be glad to drive by over the week-end and have a look and look for some grave markers. Maybe that could give you and headstart with your limited time. I have worked on Bonham and 7th and have driven this area of Graham street probably at least 300 times. I have never noticed a cemetery (and cemeteries usually get my attention). However, I probably need to get off of Graham to see it. I recall a Self Storage business on that area of Graham. Maybe the graves are around behind the selfstorage. Whatever, I will at least drive around the block tomorrow and then go from there. 3. I have never heard of the Old City Cemetery either. Could you possibly be referring to the Old Lamar County Cemetery? If so , it's located just outside NE Loop 286 on FM195. Every time I pass by there the gate is always locked but you may be able to park in the driveway and walk in. Matt SHIRLEY FARRELL wrote: > If you go to the Lamar GenWeb site, scroll down to OTHER HISTORICAL SITES IN LAMAR CO. and click on LAMAR CHAPTER NO. 258-UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY and then scroll down to PHOTO GALLERY PICTURES OF OLD CEMETERY OF PARIS, TOMBSTONES OF NINTH TEXAS INFANTRY SOLDIERS and it shows pictures of it, but no directions. 3. Wow!!! Thanks so much for the info. Not only is the the info great, but what a great 'read'. All of the Lamar County list members should read this. It is very interesting. Thank You so much for sharing this info. I may not find who I am looking for there, but I do believe that it is surely a special place in the history of Paris and Lamar county. I hope I will be able to get in and look around. Do you know if it is locked all the time or not? Thanks again!!! You helped so much. :-) Shirley BBIRDSWIFE@aol.com wrote: Name: Cemetery Old City Born: 1845 Died: Buried: Old City Location: NW QUAD 186 Notes: Old City Cemetery is bounded by Graham St., 5th NW, W. If you want to know about the cemetery, go to _Lamar County, Texas - Cemetery Records_ (http://gen.1starnet.com/cemetery.htm) Click on "Death and Cemetery Records of Lamar County", then click on "Search the Database" after you have read and agree to their rules, then type in "Old City" in the Surname box and click Search. It will bring up the Old city cemetery...click on that and there is a long page of information on this cemetery. I talked to the funeral home, yesterday afternoon, that was in charge of W.H. Courcier's services here in Paris, Texas. The lady there went to their archive vault and got his written records. They had two different death dates in two different places on the records, Feb. 3 and Feb. 5. She and I agreed that probably he died on Feb. 3, but was buried on Feb. 5, 1947 He died at his residence at 905 Holliday St., Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas and was brought back here for burial. They had him as Henry and not W.H. Informant was Mrs. Jamie Parker. He was born here in Paris, Texas His parents were Henry Courcier, born in Illinois and Adalaide Jones, birth place unknown. Survivors were son; Henry Courcier, Jr. of Detroit Michigan sisters; Mrs. Elmer Feiring and Mrs. W.J. Phillips, both of Kansas City; Mrs. B___ Morris of Detroit Michigan. (sorry, can not read my notes) Also 1/2 sister; Mrs. Cole Parker of Paris, Texas The lady at the Funeral home said if you want a copy of the written records, just contact her. There will be no charge, except maybe for postage..unless you have a fax machine. She did not give me her name, but here is their website and you can contact her through it. www.starrettfunerals.com In 1947 they were another name. Since there was no obit in the Paris, News, I would consider contacting a Newspaper in Wichita Falls, Texas to see if they have an archive. Also you can visit these two websites, where there are volunteers in the counties that will do lookups for you. www.RAOGK.com and http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~obitl/ovlist.html Maybe now that you have survivors names, you can eventually find living decendants to share information with. H. Courcier Born: 1895 Died: 1947 Buried: Evergreen Location: 08-65-00- I went to the Evergreen cemetery and checked records there. They had him down first as W.H., but notation had him as A.H., jr. They also had his place of residence as 905 Holliday St., Wichita Falls, Wichita county, Texas. Date of death, I was told, was Feb. 5, 1947 but when I talked to funeral home, they have his first name as Henry and his death date as Feb. 3, 1947. It could be that he died on Feb. 3rd, but was buried on Feb. 5th. They are going to pull his records from their archives to see if they have more and then call me back. Others buried in the same plot area were A.H. Courcier who died Aug. 5, 1907, Eliza Louis Reynolds and Alphonso Reynolds, who died in 1897. I checked with the both the County Clerk and the City Clerk, neither office had a death certificate filed for him. It is my opinion that he died somewhere else, perhaps Wichita Falls, Texas and was brought back for burial in Lamar County. Have you ever gone to the RAOGK.com site? It stands for Random Acts of Genealogy Kindess. Go check it out. It is an organization that has volunteers in most every county in the U.S. that will do certain lookups and searches for people, that can not other wise travel to that county. Give it a try and see if there is someone in that county that he died in, that would go lookup the obituary for you. www.RAOGK.com Have a nice day.
