He married Mary J. TURNER and they are listed with their two children in the 1860 Lamar Co, TX census (Ancestry Image 17 of 20)p. 97 as 532/532 Wm. SINCLAIR. I have no further information on Mary J. TURNER. The ST.CLAIRs were members of Church of Christ. There was another William Edward ST.CLAIR (b c 1835 SC - d 1911 Collin Co, TX) in Lamar County in 1860. I do not know their relationship, if any. Both have connections to my ROLAND family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Donald Turner
    3. I would like to add my 2 cents to the discussion about the old Paris Texas commentary. My Mother was an Albright and a few years before she died she waned to go to Paris and go to all of the commentaries where family was buried. The very first was in what she called the water tower commentary. We found the commentary very well cared for. But we did find some stones pulled down. We did set them up again except for one that was just to heavy for us. none of the Albright stones had been pulled down.Donald Turner

    1. [TXLAMAR] Old City Cemetery
    2. SHIRLEY FARRELL
    3. I really want to Thank everyone who sent me information about th Old City Cemetery. I am surprised more people do not know where it is. We walked the entire cemetery. I did not find my Benton Tidwell, that I have been looking for, but Winona Harper that went with me found her great grandparents James and Roxie Hornbuckle Lynn and Roxie's father W. S. Hornbuckle is buried beside them. It makes you sad that so many tombstones have been vandalized. There was a huge, and I mean a huge limb that had fallen from the large tree in the center of the cemetery. We could not move it, but we did check for tombstones covered by it. There was a pack of dogs there when we arrived and I was afraid they might not allow us to look around, but they moved to the side as we walked around looking around. There are several cement vaults, I guess you would call them, we could find no name and several of them have either been broken into or age has destroyed them. They are about the size and shape of a casket. Does anyone know if the people are buried above ground inside the vault, or were they buried in the ground like usual and these "vaults" placed over their gravesite? It was very peaceful and quiet there and my two children who went with me and are usually bored to tears to go with me to all the cemeteries I visit, did not seem to mind this one too much. I am sorry to say I made them feel like they had to go. It was my 65th birthday and Jimmy and Robin said they would do something with me for my birthday. I said "Ok, let's go to this cemetery I have been going to." My son said "Mom we meant do something with live people, not dead ones!" But they went anyway. We did go on to the Union Grove Cemetery where I knew that several Tidwell, Nowell and Higgs family members are buried. But, alas, no Benton Tidwell. Winona's grandparents, Clint and Sallie May Lynn Tidwell are buried there. Clint and my great grandfather William Virge Tidwell were brothers. Their parents Benton and Nancy Parlee Higgs Tidwell, in the 1900 census of Paris, Texas, they lived in town with their daughter and her husband. In 1906 Benton died on Christmas day, Benton died, but I cannot find where he is buried. One family source says he was in Haskell County visiting his son Charlie, when he became ill and died. But am unable to prove this. In 1923 Nancy Parlee Higgs Tidwell was living with her son Thomas in Dickens county when she died but cannot find where she is buried either. Once again to everyone on the information that everyone sent to the mailing list, it definitely made my trip easier when I had such a short time for my visit. I believe I found the William Lipscomb family in Delta County in the 1930 census. William Lipscomb, Jr. 9/12 years old (census was taken in April 1930) is listed with his parents William, age 23 and Anna May, age 17. No other children listed. I searched earlier census for the father in Delta and Lamar counties - no listing. I looked for a marriage record for the parents to try to glean the mother's maiden name - no listing. All three were listed as having been born in Texas. Maybe try posting a message in Delta County message board as this is probably where they were married and William Jr. born. Sorry I couldn't find further information. Good luck. I hope you are successful. Debi Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. When they entered service they gave Lamar, County, Texas as their home of record. SIMON LADELL* Born: November 29, 1930. Black DOL November 28, 1950. POW WILLIAM LIPSCOMB, JR* Born: June 28, 1929. Black DOL December 1, 1950. POW When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 140 families from Texas that have not been located. There are two families from Lamar County that has not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.
