One of the stories that I am writing is about Sheriff Elijah Harrison Ikard who was killed in Archer County by Charlie Crabtree and Frank Looney. Over the past few months I have been searching for Frank Looney's family and I believe that I have narrowed it down to Frank and Alice Looney. In the 1920 census they are living in Red River Co. but in 1930 Alice is living in Lamar Co. and she is buried with her son who drowned. They are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lamar Co. However, I also believe that Franks father F.M. Looney is buried in Woodland in Red River County. This is all that I have to go on: The murder occurred Sept. 22, 1925. The Wichita Daily Times dated Sept. 25, 1925 stated that "Friday morning, Mrs. Frank Looney of Paris, Texas who states she is the legally wedded wife of the dead man and the mother of his five children"..... The 1930 census shows that Alice was a widow and had five children. Actually there was a sixth who must have died before 1910. Is there anyone who might be able to check a newspaper for Sept. 25, 1925 and see if anything was reported on Frank's death? Thanks for any help! Hi to everyone, The strangest thing happened to me yesterday. While looking at some pictures I picked up at Wal-Mart photo center, I ran across several pictures of tombstones with the last name of HUDDLE. They were on the same roll with pictures that my grandaughter took at a youth camp last summer. She does not know who took them or where they came from. I did not remember ever taking them. I am a gen. researcher here in Lamar County, but have not done any HUDDLE research for any client. I researched the names first in the Lamar County Cemetery Records...to make sure they were from Lamar County cemeteries. I want to share these photos with any HUDDLE family member, if you would like these. Please email me back and I will email you the pictures. I have dones some touchups on the originals, to darken or lighten, so the names/information can be seen better. Here are the names on the tombstones, below: Double stones: Wm. E. "Bill" Huddle & Winifred Taylor Huddle b. 8/15/1919 b. 1/1/1917 d. 10/24/1997 no death date NOTE: the is also a picture of his military foot stone Louis Huddle & Jewel Huddle b.10/7/1897 b. 7/7/1897 d.11/16/1987 d. 8/24/1995 Adrian Huddle & Velma B. b. 7/16/1905 b. 10/18/1903 d. 5/19/1988 d. 3/3/1983 Single stones "In loving memory of my husband" Jack Huddle b. 2/?/192? d. 1/3/1973 Ivy Botts b. 3/29/1880 d. 3/30/1933 I hope that this can help someone out there and their research. Hope you can untangle everything. I have found that even when I know my relatives' names, there are often names and initials recorded incorrectly. In census records, I have found the oddest records because the census taker records what they "hear" and often makes it just luck that I find the record. Often, you need to know the nickname of a person to add that to your search, because the family will use the nickname of a child (i.e. "little bit" being translated to "Lillie Beth" or vice versa) to list the children. The worst I have personally had was a death record in California that had all the info right, but recorded a combination of the father first name and a brother's middle name. Dates, name of mother, everything else was right. My dad actually remembered when they got the death certificate with the wrong name, but it was never corrected. LOL!! So you have to just hang in there on some of these! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
