Don't know if you are interested or not, but Della Brown Milam's death certificate is there. You can download to your computer or print it out and it is FREE. Was there anything particular that you are wanting to know or find in Lamar County concerning this couple. It helps us if we know what you already have information on and what you don't. I mean are you looking for obituaries, marriage records, births, etc? What exactly are you looking for? Thanks. That is great information. I could not figure out why an attorney from Lamar County, moved to the Choctaw Nation area, lived and died there. Charlene ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis R. I was almost sure you would be unable to locate any court cases during that period. All of the court records in Lamar County were destroyed in the great fire of 1916, as were the newspaper files. However, I believe the court case you are seeking was in the Federal Court...and not the Lamar County Court. A branch of the Federal District Court of Fort Smith AR was in Paris. All of the FEDERAL cases in the Choctaw and Chickasha Nations were handled in the Paris Federal Court. The Choctaw Nation boundary is just 15 miles north of Paris, and the Chickasha joins them on the west. The fact that we are dealing with Chickasha citizens leads me to believe this is probably the case. The Federal Courthouse also burned in the 1916 fire. Dennis R. Charlene, Is Louise "bbirdswife@aol.com"? If so, she did send me both the list of newspapers online, and also the note below, informing me that the librarians won't do look ups, as well as pointing out that 1889 was a year not covered. I did write her back to thank her anyway. If Louise is someone else, then I don't think I got a note from her. I am trying to find out more about John David "Dave" Hardwick, born ca 1852 in Mississippi, said to have died on 23 Oct 1889 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. Would there be any place that I could find Paris Newspapers on file for that time period? I would be very interested in obtaining a copy of his obituary, or an article about his death. John David Hardwick was born in John C. Hardwick and his wife, Elizabeth Jane Boyd in present day Marshall County, Mississippi. Elizabeth Boyd was Chickasaw by blood. John and Elizabeth settled in Pickens County, I.T. around 1854. John married first Sarah DUNEPHINE and second Lucretia "Crecy" HARNEY. Lucretia Harney was also Chickasaw by blood. After John's death, Crecy married second Tate MERRIMAN. When Tate applied to enroll in the Chickasaw Nation based on his marriage to Crecy, he testified that....." He was a continuous resident of the Chickasaw nation except for a five year period, from 1897 to 1901, during which time he was in prison in Sherman, Texas. He indicated that he "had been at Paris several times as a witness, that is when I was arrested." So, I'd also be curious to see whether or not I could find an index of court cases from Lamar County to 1897. It does seem interesting, any maybe not entirely a coincidence, that Crecy's first husband died in Lamar County in 1889, and that her second husband testified in a court case in Lamar county shortly thereafter. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Melinda McLemore Strong San Antonio, Texas
