I don't know how all of you feel about someone contacting you to make net genealogy a "paying" proposition. How do we let these guys know that we do this for the love of our ancestors and each other and that money is the least of our motives for the hours we spend in front of our beloved computers? Betty Kicmango@AOL.com Go to this site and learn what to do to SPAMMER's http://spamcop.net/ If the spammers are denied access to the web, your problem with spam will be eliminated. Highly recommended and a painless way to report spammers. You don't have to subscribe to receive the major benefit of SpamCops. Betty makes a minor mistake when she thinks that spammer's can be reasoned with. They are immune to all entreaties, arguments, etc. The only thing they understand is to have their service disconnected by their ISP for violation of the providers service agreement.

I>> In your Lamar County meanderings I would appreciate it if you would forward any information on Branum/Branham, Perkins, and York to me. Thanks and good luck on your search. >> Hi, Betty, Funny, we were thinking of each other at the same time. I just put a packet into the mail to you of several Branum tombstone pictures that I scanned for you last night -- I just received them a few days ago. There is also one in there of Nancy L. Perkins, wife of William Perkins. I don't know who these Perkins are. Maybe the parents of Margaret Perkins?? Let me know if you know who they are. I don't have any Campbells or Yorks. Should I have them? I've been to Ron's site before. It's good. Actually, I do have Campbells in my data base, but they are in another line of mine -- out of Pennsylvania -- nothing to do with the Branums. Best, Lee
There are Two Campbells buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Lamar County; Ethrell Campbell (dob 24 July 1898 and dod August 2, 1900) and James W. Campbell (dob December 2, 1826 and dod December 10, 1893). Ron Brothers, president of the Lamar County Genealogical Society has a site that has lots of good Lamar County information. You can also join the Genealogical Society - they publish lots of excellent books. Ron's website is: http://gen.1starnet.com/cemetery/cemmain.htm. In your Lamar County meanderings I would appreciate it if you would forward any information on Branum/Branham, Perkins, and York to me. Thanks and good luck on your search. Betty
I am looking for L.J. Campbell or it could be listed Lee J. Campbell. the family was from Lamar County, Texas. They lived on Beat No 3, Lamar County, TX. I found the info where he served in the 9th Brigade, Texas State Troops, Texas Militia. States he was a Pvt born about 1820. >From the Federal Archives Index of those who served in Louisiana Confederate Army I have 3 different L.J. Campbell's listings. L.J. Campbell, Co A, 9th Battalion, Louisiana Infantry (we think this could be our L.J. as it is thought he was at Manassas. I have the muster card information for this one listed below) L.J. Campbell, Sargent, Co K, (Harrison's) Louisiana Cavalry L.J. Campbell, Co K, 16th Battalion, Louisiana Infantry A little bit of information on L.J. Campbell before he joined one of these Louisiana Company's. We know he left his family in Lamar and went to Louisian to fight in the Civil War. He was gone approx 4 years. I feel sure he and his brother-in-law Ephriam Foster went together. Information on the family: Lee J. Campbell b 1818 MS d abt 1890 TX, m. Ellen Foster ca 1845-48 Jackson Parish, LA. Ellen b 1826 MS d 1872-1873 Lamar, TX. Children: James Madison Campbell b 1848 Ephriam Frank Campbell b 1850 Elizabeth C. Campbell b 1851 Milly A. Campbell b 1852 Sarah Jane Campbell b 1855 Dortha Malvina Campbell b 1860 Amanda Lee Campbell b 1861 Ellen's brother was Ephriam A. Foster b apr 1, 1828 On the one muster card I have, it shows an L.J. Campbell was a Private in Co A, 9th Batt, LA Army. He enlisted May 15, 1862 Camp Moore, LA by Capt R.A. Stewart. Any information on this family would be appreciated. Or knows where to find the rosters for these companies. I have searched most of the civil war sites. Thanks Thelma RockinN@aol.com

Can anyone give information about the Nance family living in the Faught Community outside of Paris? They owned a store as late as the 1970's. Thanks in advance for any assistance. - Charlene
James McDonald and Lena Lingo were married in Lamar County 2/4/1908. The 1910 census indicates they were still living in Lamar County in 1910 with an infant daughter, Grace O. Distant family history believes Grace is not Lena's daughter. It is believed that James was involved with some influential person's daughter and an altercation happened. He seriously injured or murdered the girl's father. James left with the baby of this union. Can anyone assist with this story? Thanks in advance for your assistance. - Charlene
My great-grandfather, Wiley L. Dunlap WHITAKER was born in MS and moved to Red River Co. and Lamar Co., TX. The death certificate for my great-grandfather states that he is Wiley WHITAKER b. Dec 1862 (census records say 1864) in MS and d. Jul 1917 Red River Co., TX. It says his father is Jno WHITAKER b. in MS. (Jno = John?). No mother listed. It appears that Jno must have died and Wiley went to live with relatives because in the 1870 Chickasaw Co., MS census, Wiley was 6 years old and living with W. Hamp WHITAKER and wife Nancy (Martin) Whitaker. The census shows that Hamp was born about 1835 in AL. He died in 1904 and is buried in Lamar Co., TX. I'm sure this is the same Wiley since they are living next door to the L.D. GOTCHER family (with daughter Sarah E.) and L.D. GOTCHER was bondsman for Hamp and Nancy's marriage in Chickasaw Co. in 1870. (See Gotcher below.) Also, I have William Bert WHITAKER b. 1866 in MS and d. 1913 in Red River Co., TX. I've been told by Bert's son's widow that Bert and Wiley were brothers, but I have not been able to connect them in any census records. Bert's census records show that his father was born in TN. (I know that census records are not a fully reliable source of information, as I have found errors in my grandfather's census records.) They both married GOTCHER sisters - Wiley married Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie" GOTCHER, and Bert married Mary Louise GOTCHER - both marriages in Red River Co., TX in the late 1800s. The Gotchers were in Red River Co., TX in 1880, but I have not located the Whitakers in that census. Wiley and Bettie (married), the Gotchers, and Bert and Mary (married) were in the 1900 Red River Co., TX census. WHITAKER - Jno (John?), W. Hamp, Wiley - others? WHITAKER - Wm. Bert, Mary Louise (Gotcher) - children: Margaret (Maggie), Nellie May, Sherman L., Loula Bell, Birty Bee, Jessie Monroe, George Thomas. GOTCHER - L.D. (Luther or Lewis), Sarah (Sally Ann) (?maiden) - children: Sarah Elizabeth (Bettie), William, James, Martha, Mary Louise, Robert C., Georgia A. Any help on these families would be very much appreciated. I am trying to find parents and birth place of Daniel C. ROLLINS (could be Dan) born 9 July 1846 in Unknown, died 10 April 1923, buried in Paris, Lamar Co. Texas. He came to TX circa 1860 and lived with a family named PARKS (relationship unknown) He married Mary Campbell, born 5 November 1853 died 4 August 1906. She is also buried in Paris, Lamar Co. Texas. She is possibly the daughter of William CAMPBELL and Elizabeth ? we think from Alabama. Daniel ROLLINS and Mary CAMPBELL had the following children: Annie May ROLLINS 19 Dec. 1872 - 24 Jan. 1900 James W. ROLLINS 2 Aug 1875 - 26 June 1900 Charles C. ROLLINS 21 Dec 1876 - 23 Jan 1948 Fred Alvin ROLLINS 1885 - died abt. 1960 in Santa Ana, Texas?
