Hello , My Husband went to school with a James LaRue and he had a younger brother named Joe LaRue .In about 1950-1952. In Paris Texas. Nella (Beth1938@aol.com) They went to Paris High School.
Hi, I have just discovered my gggrandparents, William J. and Elizabeth (maybe Barclay) Jenkins. They had a total of 14 children. According to the 1900 Al Calhoun Co. census, only 7 were living. I have found most of them, but there is a gap in some. Below is what I have and what I need. If you have any information on any of these, please let me know. Thanks. William J. Jenkins Feb 10, 1812 - Mar 15, 1877 Born in TN, died in Calhoun Co., AL. Buried at Walnut Spring Cemetery, Jacksonville. Elizabeth Jenkins, wife, was living in 1900 in Jacksonville, and was 73. Born in GA, father in SC and mother in GA. Need to know parents and when died and where buried. Children: Born in Georgia, possibly Coweta Co. 1. William W. Jenkins, born abt. 1842. Died May 20, 1862 in Ashland, VA in a hospital. Need to know where buried. 2. Margaret born about 1844. Married White R. Marable April 2, 1865 in Calhoun Co. AL. I find her on the 1870 and 1880 census in Calhoun Co., AL with 2 children: Adolphus, Louisa, and Thomas. Her husband is not with her. I need to find out about her husband and when she died and where she is buried. 3. Malinda born about 1846. Married Alfred Davis June 20, 1874 in Calhoun Co., AL. She may have died before 1897. In the Alabama Heritage book there is an article about Alfred Davis that mentions he was married before. The person doesn't know who the first wife was. Alfred and Malinda were living in Cherokee Co in 1880. Had one daughter, Tempy. 4. Sarah born about 1849. The last time I have her in on the 1880 census living with her mother. I find no marriage record. Nor can I find a burial site. Need anything on her. 5. George born about 1853. Same as Sarah. 6. Mary Ann C. born Jan 4, 1856. Married Adolphus Monroe Evans Jan 29, 1878 in Calhoun Co., AL. I need to know her correct death date. They are both buried at Highland Cemetery in Piedmont, AL. Her tombstone has March 1925. However, she filed for a widows pension and the dates range from March 1930 to May 1930. My uncle was born in 1926 and he remembers Aunt Mary Ann coming to visit his grandfather, Levi, Mary's brother. Mary and Adolphus had no children. 7. Levi is my ggrandfather. Born May 2, 1855. Died Feb 17, 1941 Hokes Bluff, Etowah Co., AL 8. Andrew Jack born about 1857 in GA. Married Annie Emmaline Young. She was a widow in 1900 and she is buried at Youngs Chapel Cemetery in Hokes Bluff, Etowah Co., AL. Need to know when he died and where he is buried. Rest are born in AL 9. Hannah M. born about 1857. Married Thomas A. Hill Sept 6, 1877 in Calhoun Co., AL. Was living in Calhoun Co., in 1880 with husband and son John. Can't find anymore on them. 10. James J born Nov 11, 1860 died Feb 23, 1921. Buried at Walnut Spring Cemetery, Jacksonville, AL. Married Alice Badgett Dec 25, 1887. She was born Jul 2, 1865 and died Jul 14, 1926. Buried same place. They had at least 5 girls. I can't find them in 1910, but James and Alice are still living in Jacksonville in 1920 (I believe they are still there, just not in the index.) In 1920, Mollie and Willie, two of their daughters, are still unmarried (Mollie never married (b. Jul 29, 1890 d. Feb 12, 1947. Buried at Edgemont Cemetery, Anniston, AL). Willie is still alive in 1930, as Mary Ann Evans states she is living with her niece, Willie, when she applies for the pension. 11. Susan born about 1864. Was living with her sister Malinda in 1880. Can't find anymore about her. 12. Emma born April 14, 1864. Died Jul 13, 1920. Married William S. Stephens. Buried at Walnut Spring Cemetery in Jacksonville, AL. Was living in Calhoun Co. in 1900. Can't find her family after that. She has a son, I am assuming, buried at the same cemetery, William Ed, born Feb 4, 1907 died Oct 21, 1918. Need help finding when her husband died and where she was in after 1900. In 1900 they have one daughter, Linda, born Nov 1889. 13. Millie (Mattie or Mittie) born about 1869. Living with her mother in 1880 and 1900. Can't find her after that. She had a child out of wedlock, Mary B. The 1900 census states she has one child still living. Mary B. is living with Elizabeth and she states she is her granddaughter. Mary B. was born Jan 1887. 14. Unknown - This child was probably born and died between census. Now, the reason I think some of them moved to Texas. In Mary Ann's widow application, she states that she lived in Lamar Co., TX and moved back to AL in 1903. I think the ones I can't find may have went to Texas. Some returning, others not. The library here has the index for Texas for 1900, but it is unreadable. We don't have it for 1910 and 1920. I do have additional information on Levi if you would like it. If you have any answers or leads to the whereabouts of my missing family, please let me know. Another thought: One of Levi's daughter's and her husband move to Texas after 1900. She is buried in Grayson County and her husband in Henderson Co. Both counties not far from Lamar. I am thinking they moved there because family was already there. Thank you very much. Keitha Jenkins Kirk genealogy

Tx Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Lamar?read=732 Surname: Campbell, McFarlane, Abbott, Odom, Lively ------------------------- Seeking info on Lemuel Abbott who married Sarah J Campbell in Anderson Co. TX 1861. They had two dtrs, Margaret and Mary in 1863 and 1867, and were in the 1870 census in Anderson Co. Then I don't know what happened to them, but other members of the family were in Lamar Co.and perhaps they too located there after 1870. On the 1870 census Lemuel Abbott is listed as 46 yrs old--born abt 1824 in VT. Sarah was b 1841 Nacogdoches Co. I know nothing more about Lemuel, but he must have been a fine gentleman because there were quite a few family members (nephews, etc.) named for him: "Lemuel Abbott Odom", for example.

Tx Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Lamar?read=727 Surname: Garrett, Evans, Sikes, Hall, Davis ------------------------- Yes, the church was on Bonham street. It was where Hicks Muffler shop is now located and it is west of the RR tracks and east of 17th street. My home church, Immanuel Bapt., is at 17th and Bonham and Garrett Memorial was east of that. Also, my parents confirmed that Oak Park Methodist, which is just a little farther west on Bonham Street, was formed from Garrett Memorial. The church itself had a rich history and is still well remembered in this area. If you can find a date for the fire, The Paris News is archived at Paris Junior College and they probably have a copy on Microfilm. Janet Anderson

Posted on: Lamar Co. Tx Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Lamar?read=725 Surname: Garrett, Sikes, Crutchfield, Evans, Hall, Davis ------------------------- Ms. Smith, I don't know what happened to the members of this wonderful old church, but as a child I can remember being awakened in the night and our family standing and watching their building burn to the ground. There were many people there that night, most with tears in their eyes. There was a small cluster of older (it seemed to me in my youth) ladies clinging to each other and whispering comforting words to each other. Of course at the time I had no understanding of what was really happening, but there was an article in The Paris News the following day with a picture that I will never forget. The picture showed that in the midst of all the ashes there was a huge white cross that was not hurt at all in the massive blaze. It's possible that a church in my old neighborhood is the next generation of the members of that beautiful old building. That church is called Oak Park United Methodist church. Garrett Memorial was somewhere in the vicinity of 15th street S.W. and Kaufman, West Austin, or Bonham Streets. I'm sorry I can't get closer than that, but I really was quite young when it happened. I can even remember asking my mother the next day if her family had "owned" that church, but we are not related to these, obviously very generous, Garretts. Janet Anderson

Tx Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Lamar?read=724 Surname: Thompson, Ledbetter, Broadway ------------------------- I'm hoping that someone can help me find information about my Thompson family. William Gideon and Lavina (Broadway) Thompson had several children in Bedford co. TN. From there they moved to Arkansas in the 1860's. Then on to Missouri. One of their sons, Jesse W. Thompson and his wife Mary J. (Ledbetter) moved in or near Powderly, Lamar co. Texas in the late 1870's or 1880's. One of their sons stayed behind in Missouri, Jesse Samuel who is my greatgrandfather. Jesse Samuel had 5 brothers that left with his parents. One is believed to have moved to Oklahoma. These brothers names were Billy, Tom, Ed, Walter and Ben. My mother has an old Thompson family album that has pictures of these brothers and some of their families. I would very much like to find descendents of theirs to share family history with. I'm just starting looking for my Thompson family and would appreciate any help that anyone could give me. You can contact me by email at kcakjones@hotmail.com or by writing to me at the following address: Carol Jones HCR 69 Box 2519A Ironton, MO 63650.

She married William E. PATTERSON in 1860 in Union County, AR. She married Henry Fountain CUMMINS/CUMMINGS/CUMMONS in 1875 in Lamar County, TX. In 1904 Amanda applied for a pension on Williams's service for the Confederacy, she received the pension in 1905. William died in 1888. He served in Co I, 31st LA Infantry. If anyone know of this family please email me. It sure has been a challenge finding Amanda. A family bible lists William F. Patterson and Mary Fletcher EZELL as her parents. But her marriage license in Lamar Co to Henry lists her as Mrs. PATTERSON. We thought she was born in Red River County but the bible says she was born in MS.
