    3. Posted on: Lamar Co. Tx Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Lamar?read=861 Surname: Germany, Bogle, Sprouse, Logan, Fisher ------------------------- Seeking information regarding John Germany, who received a grant of 1280 acres in Red River Co., TX June 7, 1838 (Texas Republic Archives) This was before Lamar Co. was formed in 1840. John Germany probably had dependents with him, as the number of acres increased with the number of family members. A single man may have only received 320 acres. My g-g-grandfather, Robert Smith Germany, came to Lamar Co. before 1880 (census, Lamar Co.) with his wife, Martha Elizabeth Sprouse, and at least 3 children, from MS. His son, James Benjamin Germany, is found on the 1880 census for Red River Co. TX. Robert Smith Germany had two more children with him, his daughter Nancy Elizabeth Germany, who married my g-grandfather, John Wilson Bogle, in 1878, and a "foundling" named Willie Waldo Germany. John Wilson Bogle's brother, William Robert Bogle, married Fannie Fisher in 1879 in Lamar Co., TX. The Bogles and Germanys had moved to Polk Co., AR by the mid-1880's. Mentioned frequently in the Germany family Bible is the J.B. and Frances Logan family, who may or may not have been related. I would like to know what happened to John Germany and his land grant. Did Robert Smith Germany inherit or acquire that land? Is there a connection?

    1. [TXLAMAR-L] W.B. Calvo & Rosa Sweeney
    2. Barb McGartland
    3. I would like to ask if these names are familiar to any of the list subscribers ? W.B. Calvo and Rosa Sweeney . They are my grandparents and records show they were married in Lamar County Texas, in 1891, Jan. 2. They were from Mt. Sterling, IL , so I was flabbergasted when I found their marriage record in Texas. I can't imagine how they went there or why ? My only lead is that W.B. Calvo was an Artist of Fresco Painting, the art of painting in damp plaster, as when large murals were done in public buildings or the for wealthy homeowners. My only guess is that he may have been in Texas commissioned by someone from the area to do a painting of this kind. If anyone knows where I might search for buildings that may have had this type of art in them or records of homes or buildings of this sort, I would be extremely grateful !! bjm
