    2. The Lamar Genealogy Library is no longer at the campus of Paris Junior College it is The Lamar Co. Genealogical Society 1125 Bonham St. Paris, TX 75460 Phone 903-784-5020 There are some years of census records at Paris Junior College Library on microfiche, as well as some back issues of the Lamar County Echo, and the Paris News. There are some marriage record indexes there also on microfiche. There is cemetary lookup online at this website, with some of the info being obits along with info off the tombstone. _THE DEATH AND CEMETERY RECORDS OF LAMAR COUNTY, TEXAS_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~txlamar/cemetery/1cemmain.htm) otherwise you need to contact the Lamar County Courthouse to get copies of birth/marriage/death certificate. You can get someone to do the searching for you, but yes, it does cost more than just what the certificate copy is. Marriage records ARE open to the public, but birth/death are not. There are some ORIGINAL marriage certificates at the Lamar County Genealogy Library that they will GIVE to an appropiate heir. You will need to contact them to find out exactly what you need to give them in documentation of heirship before you can have the marriage certificate. _Lamar County, TXGenWeb_ (http://gen.1starnet.com/) _Lamar County Genealogical Society Home Page_ (http://gen.1starnet.com/lamargen.htm) Any other questions, just email me and I will try to help......that goes for anyone. You can pay someone to have them look it up for you. Or you go to google and put in Lamar County,Texas and you will get a registry of who is buried where and sometimes there is an obituary attached to that. I could look some of it it up for you because I am in the Texas State library genealogy section ssometimes on Saturday mornings and can get birth data but it doesn't always list parents. You might have to go to the Paris News in person and ask to see back copies but I don't know how far back they go.

    2. Jim Giddens
    3. I don't know of this will be of any help, but you might search for any possible connectionbetween Thomas G Owens that married Geretta Giddens. Geretta (or Jeretta) was born ca 1824. Her family came to Red River County in 1833 from Vermilion County, Ill (Danville area). Maybe you Thomas Maynard born in 1878 could have been name after my Thomas G Owens. Her brother was my Great Great Grandfather Wiley W. Giddens. I went to school in Clarksville as a teen in the 1950 with a James Owens, his father was Edgar Owens. James has a sister Bobbie Ann living to day in Annona, Tx. Her last name is Puckett or Peek, I forget, there are a lot of both names in that area. There is a Thomas Owens, a member of Concord Baptist Church (northeast Red River Co) in 1853 in a copy of the church minutes I have. Must be the same Thomas G that married Giddens. Guretta father was Richard F Giddens, that established/built the church on his land and organize it in 1844. Richard Owens is a member of the church also and in a younger class, probably a son to Thomas and named after his Giddens grandfather. but could be a brother. Update, I see Geretta in the same age range as Richard and still with the Giddens name, so Richard I assume s a brother to Thomas. I do not see these names in the later years, so I guess they more own. I do know that Jeretta's have lived and had land dealings in Hopkins before he died Jan 1897.
