I found the the Powderly census but can't read one entry that looks like "Lizzie" I'm trying to find John Biggle Barber's daughter, Amanda b. 1876 in Clinton CO., KY. She supposedly married a Lee McFadden and later married H.W. Shew. Another researcher is looking for "Birdie" Barber who was b. 1895 the same year as "Lizzie"? I really would like to find Lee McFadden but can't. I also would like to find any relatives of John Biggle Barber that lived in TX, OK, or KY. I would appreciate your taking a look at the 1900 Lamar Co., census, JP #8, ED# 87, ancestry. com image #6. See if you can make out the Name?

I am interested in examining the typical social-history questions of how gender relations changed after the Civil War, what happened to Confederate widows, etc. Along those lines, I think that Lamar County might be a suitable county to focus on. To conduct this type of study I am hoping to find a county with a newspaper(microfilm copies, etc) that currently exists that date back to 1865-1880; complete county records; and hopefully some literary sources(letters, diaries, memoirs, etc) that would shed light on women from 1865-1880. If you could comment on the availability of these above sources for Lamar County that would be very helpful. Any suggestions/ information that you have, regarding Lamar or any other North Texas county, I would sincerely appreciate. Surnames: Roberts, Stunkard, Porter, Burdine Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YlB.2ACI/1962 Message Board Post: I'm trying to find out who my great-grandfather, George P. Roberts (1870 - ?), married when he was in Paris/Lamar Co., TX around 1890. He left north MS (Nettleton) around 1886 -- after that, we lose him. His very young daughter, Beulah Mae Roberts (1891-1930), was born in Paris, TX but spent most of her life with her grandparents in north MS. We've never known her mother's name or when her parents died. There were a few other family members in the area -- Dr. & Mrs. E.C. Porter and Mr. & Mrs. A.L. Burdine. I don't know any of their descendants but would appreciate any info anyone can provide on those families. The only viable marriage info I've found shows a G.P. Roberts married C.L. Stunkard on 10/3/1890, in Lamar Co., but there is nothing more after that. We assume that both of Beulah's parents died when she was very young, because she shows up on the 1900 Census of Lee Co., MS as an 8-yr.-old granddaughter of Robert M. Roberts -- she had been with them for a few yea! rs by then. If anyone can provide any helpful info, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
