Zachary Hughes must be in another County in Illinois in 1840, i posted over there. and maybe someone will see it.and if they email me, i will let you know. i have found more information on Edward Hughes now,and think he is correct father to my Soloman Hughes, there are three Soloman hughes there in Missouri now, also a McDowell Hughs in Adair Co Missouri with Soloman born 1846 hes born Ky.Some of the children of edward moved over there in that county.next door to him.Lucinda hughes , daughter of edward married William Tade and moved next door to McDowell hughs in 1870 . He must be her uncle and son of Edwards Frances

Sounds like your husbands family was around some of the same states as mine. Takes a while to put some of it together at times. I have found rootsweb and familysearch to be the best help. I'm really hoping to find info on my Grandmother's other brother Thomas as he took off from home around the age of 18 and was never heard from again. It was her favorite brother. I have a picture he painted of the house they lived in...where? I could only read what you could on the headstone, I'd be glad to get the rest though as my Grandma also had a baby that died and at the time couldn't afford a headstone but always wanted one made for him his name was Warren he's buried in Alamogordo at the foot of her dad's (James Roney Fenimore) grave, so I thought one day I will buy a headstone and have it placed there, and after finding her little brother Jesse's headstone I was thinking maybe she'd like it if I used the same saying her parents did for Jesse on Warren's. That's also why I thought fixing little Jesse's would be nice. If I can help you with any of your searches while I'm loking let me know. Sherry

I really appreciate all the help you've given me. I don't know if my Great Grandparents James Roney Fenimore and wife Mary Amanda Fransis Leroy Fenimore "Fannie" lived there or if they were just passing through. They also had a daughter Nellie May or Mae Fenimore that was born in Parris, Tx 08/18 or 08/28/1893. Then they must have moved on to Oklahoma where they had some of there other children most in Shawnee but one possibly on the way between Norman and Shawnee: James Otto Fenimore 12/23/1895 or 12/24/1896. Then in Shawnee: Nettie Novella Fenimore "Dude" 10/22/1898, Thomas Franklin Fenimore 12/24/1899 and the others that I'm not sure of where they were born possibly some in OK or some in NM or between, even possibly Ark. as I know they traveled from Mena, Ark. to Alalmogordo,NM in a covered wagon 39 days in 1920-1921. Next is I believe Dora ? Fenimore "Tink" 04/25/1904, then I believe Dell ? Fenimore 1909, then I believe Virginia ? Fe! nimore year unknown but I believe between 1909 and 1913 because my Grandma Bessie Ellen Fenimore Ogle Cassity was the youngest born 03/18/1913. James and Fannie were married in Maxey, TX on 11/23/1889-90. James was born in Joplin,MO as were his parents Thomas ? Fenimore @1837 and ? ? Humble @1841. But was said that he was raised by 2 uncles in Ark. names unknown other than pictures with possibly Milt(on). "Fannie" Mary was born in Evergreen ,LA from death record or TN from Jesus Christ Latter day Saint record. Her parents were both born in TN: Francis or Frank(lin) Levi Leroy @1845 and Harriet Ellen Temperance Steel @ 1849 but they both died when she was around age 3 her mother first then her father who was a well educated Architect and Builder of French descent. She was said to have been raised by a black Nannie, where ?? She also had a brother named Sam(uel) ? Leroy info unknown. I have some old photos of unknown relatives, as well as some of James, Mary and the childre! n. But they places they were taken are not the places I show they were except a few. I'm not sure of any other Surnames going back. It's such a wonderful feeling to know about past generations. Thanks Again for the help so far and to come. Let me know if the Stone can be fixed or not and if I can do anything to help if so. Were you able to make out any of the saying at the bottom? Some I can read but the rest I can't. It's a cherished find I know my Grandma would've loved to see it before she past away. Most of the family is buried in Alamogordo,NM where alot of them stayed living, and there kids are spread out. I will share it with my family. THANK YOU!!

    3. (More memory lane) I remember Burns(neighbor) (Royce Gene Burns), Piland (land lady), but for the life of me I can not remember our friends that raised chickens (as I guess a lot of people did) and the boys loved to bury their face in watermelon. There was great swimming hole (small lake) that was feed by a large flow of gushing hot (very warm) water. It came out of a pipe about 3 ft large that you could stand in from of in the lake. I wonder if it is still flowing. Memory Recall. The other name was Collins. (later I realized Houston has a school name Smiley which confused me at first) Mrs Piland rented us her house and live in a shack garage apartment in the back so we could have a place to live. He had a great little dog called Teddy. When we moved away in about 6 months, she gave Teddy to us. Now that is a lovely lady. We enjoyed Teddy for several more years. 3. (this is memory lane, so delete if not interested) After seeing the name "Nixon, Tx" several times, I just have to say I know where Nixon is. When I was in the 4th grade (about 1951), we lived 8 miles from that small city of Nixon in a smaller town of Smiley, Tx pop about 200. All the streets in Smiley were sand. My dad was working for a road construction company to pave Main Street. That was a big deal for Smiley. I got bit by a rattle snake (as least that is what I was told it probably was after my knee swollen up to about twice it normal size). I made several trips to Nixon to see the doctor. As a boy, I remember the grass burrs being bad and large ants would make large ant trail (about 3 inches wide) even in the weeded pastures. I know some family names in Smiley, but none in Nixon, just could not resist going back in time. One of the main games us boys played at school was a pocket-knife game called Mummley Peg (spell). I wonder if that is still allowed today. The school was built in 1866 and it looks like a big 2 story home of the day. It was dismantled in the early 1950's to make way for brick houses.
