    1. Re: [TXLAMAR] Birdsong family
    2. Gloria Fort Smith has a great genealogy department. And they have lots of old records dating into the 1880's. The have a online website and will do some lookups for free. They will most definelty tell if they have newspaper for that time period. All the newspapers they have are on micofilm. And if you need them to do actual research they do it rather cheap. 5.00 an hour I think. LOL, I know all this because I moved about two years ago from there. I live in Little Rock Arkansas now or I would be glad to go do the lookups for you. If I can help you futher please let me know. Gina

His first wife's name was Missouri but I believe he married a Mrs Susana Moore there in 1848. I found they are buried in Wright cemetery but I don't know who Joseph's children are. 3. Thanks to all of you who responded to my request for the 1870 Lamar County Census for the surname BIRDSONG. A few years back I tried to read the census myself on microfilm and a lot of the pages were unreadable. I hired someone at that time to read it for me in Lamar County and they told me that the majority of that census was unreadable also. I've tried Ancestry.com but in searching other people I've found that many times all people are not listed in Ancestry and I've searched page to page to find some names and have found that in the Ancestry index many times the names are spelled differently or interpreted as a different name which was why I couldn't find them in the Ancestry index. That's why I was wondering if there was a good copy or even a State or local census available for 1870. My gg grandparents were William and Charlotte Birdsong who had 12 children. They moved to Lamar County from TN between 1861 - 1867. One of their daughters Margaret (Maggie) was born in Blossom, TX in 1867. I have her birthdate and place from a grandson. My Grandmother Josephine C. was born in Blossom in July 1869 and the youngest child John Wesley Birdsong was born in Blossom in 1872. He became the father of 18 children and one of his children gave me his birthdate and place. I have the Birdsongs from the 1880 TX census records and in the other counties for 1870. Some of them are mine from Hunt County but I can't find William and Charlotte and the younger children. William, the father died about 1873-74 when my grandmother was 4 years old but Charlotte didn't die until 1885 when she was taken to Ft Smith to be a witness in a murder trial. Are there newspapers available? Perhaps someone would have ideas of what other records that are available for Lamar County and can point me in directions to look. Again, Thank you all and any ideas are more than welcome and very much appreciated since I'm in CA and don't know what is available.
