McNorton served as a private in Co E, 6th Texas Cavalry. Co E was raised primarily in Van Zandt, but contained some Kaufman County men, especially those from the Cedar Grove area. Cedar Grove is listed as McNorton's post office in the 1860 Census-- it was a prosperous village in Kaufman county at the time, with a school, mill, and several stores. It was located near the Van Zandt county line, west of present Wills Point. According to my very brief notes on McNorton's service records, he was wounded in the legs at Corinth, MS (3-4 Oct 1862, the 6th saw some heavy fighting as a rear-guard) and died some time later (probably soon thereafter).
