Hi Betty, I don't know if you have a copy of the book Prairieville by Helen Richman Wisdom. If so, this is a repeat. There are a few mentions of Carpenter in it. Page 38 lists Jno Carpenter as a Private in the Johnson Guards of Kaufman Co. as listed in the Marshall Texas Republican 2 Nov 1861 Page 145 lists Mr. and Mrs. Don Carpenter of Athens as patrons of the Pioneer Theatre production of Gran Quivira in 1938. Page 152 is a map of the Prairieville area Survey showing a 100 acre plot for Hyde Carpenter - I think this may be two separate families. Page 171 is a picture of the children in the Prairieville School 1933-1934 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Horace Carpenter is in the middle row. BTW their teacher was my grandmother, Veda Olson. Also, my gr-gr-grandparents, the Olsons, took in a young girl by the name of Callie Carpenter. Story goes, her parents died when she was about 14. She went to live with Ole Nicholas Olson and his wife Georgia Melissa Jones. Georgia and Callie were only 2 years apart in age. Callie was considered part of the family. Do you know if she might be related to your Carpenters? Her dates are 1882-1963. Lissa Johnston [email protected] I never intended to become a run-of-the-mill person. --Barbara Jordan
