Hello Everyone, I am new to the list. I finally found the family of my 3g grandparents, Thomas L. & Franky (Murrell) Williams in the 1850 Kaufman Co TX Census. They are the next to the last household, with several Howards living with them, and next door. Both of these families must have come from Moniteau Co Missouri, I believe the Williams came about 1848. Thomas & Franky moved to Benton Co AR in 1853, and I never even looked in TX because they had no children born there, and just didn't expect to find them. I looked at birthplaces of their nieghbors' kids in 1860, and several were in TX in 1850, so I thought why not? It appears as though Thomas L. Williams once again bought land in Kaufman Co, according to the list in the County GenWeb Archives. -- ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/kaufman/land/kaufman.txt I have never really done much TX research, and am not sure how to interpret the data here. Do the Abstract Numbers reflect the chronological order in which the land was registered? Is there some sort of numbering grid for the Section Numbers that someone could explain? I am only familiar with Arkansas & Missouri Land grants, and their each township/range location has 36 Sections laid out in a pattern? I ask because I can't figure out the rhyme or reason for the order that is reflected in this lisit.
