I looked up the death records for Kaufman Co. and found that he passed on September 24, 1983. My father's brother, John Selvidge, passed away when he was 13 and is also buried there. I don't think anyone has been to see their graves in a very long time, so I plan to go out there soon and take flowers and clean it up a little. Thank you for asking, and I'm glad you got what you were wanting.

Surnames: Grooms Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FkB.2ACE/723.1 Message Board Post: Nancy was the daughter of James S. Grooms (not H) and Rebecca Jones. After months of researching to find more information about James Grooms, I found the following information. Grooms, James S, Second Corporal—Enlisted in Co. E, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, at Champagnolle, Arkansas, June 20, 1861; appointed second corporal, June 20, 1861; promoted third sergeant, November 1862; wounded on Darbytown Road, Virginia, October 7, 1864; promoted first sergeant; paroled at Appomattox, Virginia, April 12, 1865; born in Alabama, c1837; listed in Union county 1860 census; occupation farmer. I also found James Grooms, born in Alabama, married to Rebecca in the 1870 census. This would have been just after the war. Their children are James S. Grooms(only child born in Arkansas), Charlie Hill Grooms born July 6, 1880 in Texas, Nancy "Nannie" Catherine Grooms born October 10, 1873 in Texas, and Mary Isabelle Grooms born Dec. 1884. James S. Grooms and his son James S. are buried in Hedley, Texas. Now in searching the census records, James never listed the birthplace of his father. His mother was stated as being born in South Carolina. ---Now the breakthrough. I found James S. Grooms at age 12 living with the Mo C. and Mary A. King Family, farmers. They had one child of their own, Sarah, age 2, and Catherine King, his mother, aged 71. They also had three other children with the last name Wethington, ages 11, 10, and 8. I believe the King family either adopted or took under their wing these four children -- good help on the farm too! My research keeps bringing me back here. Seeing Nannie's middle name as Catherine leads me to believe he was honoring the older woman who raised him. Hope this helps in your research. --Diane Grooms

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Williams Coleman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FkB.2ACE/1535 Message Board Post: We are attempting to locate any descendents of our great-grandfather’s brother Alonzo Allen Williams. The 1870 Census for Jackson County Georgia list a household consisting of Allen Colman age 85, Ann Coleman age 85, Mary Williams age 40 all born in SC, Emmit Williams age 15, Alonzo Williams age 14 and John Williams age 10 all born in GA. These were the wife, children and in-laws of John F. Williams who died at Vicksburg, MS in 1863. The story handed down from our parents and grandparents is that Emmit and his brother Alonzo set off from Stone Mountain Georgia in the late 1870’s for Texas. The story has it that Emmit got as far as the Tyro/Harmontown area in Lafayette County, MS where he met and fell in love with his wife-to-be and that Alonzo went on to Texas. We know that Emmit Reynolds Williams (1853-1917) married Sarah Frances “Fannie” Rayborn (1858-1921) in 1878 and that the couple had seven children. The 1880 Census for Lafayette County Mississippi list a household consisting of Emit Williams Age 26 born in GA, wife Fannie Williams age 21 born in MS, brother Johnnie Williams age 18 born in GA and son Columbus Williams age six months born in MS but no mention of Alonzo or Mary. In 1937 when he was age 10 John Cully Williams, a grandson of Emit Reynolds, traveled with his father John Thurber and his uncle Christopher Columbus to visit an “Uncle John and Aunt Annie 80 in Gainesville GA. Af! ter losing contact for all this time we have just this week reestablished contact with the descendents of John Morgan Williams.
