However, your Lucinda Moorman was a double Moorman, descended from Long Benjamin Moorman and Margaret Rebecca Moorman. Margaret Rebecca was a sister to my GG grandmother, Martha Elizabeth Moorman, (1831-1921). Her son, Henry Wallace Miller, moved to Kaufman County around the turn of the century. His daughter, Ola Lee Miller, married Walter Dorough, my grandfather. Interestingly, two of Walter's uncles married into the Barnes' family when they were still living in Lincoln County, TN. William Jefferson Dorough married Lucy Orlena Barnes and Alan Thomas Dorough married Sarah "Sallie" Barnes. I know of a book entitled "Two Hundred Years of Our Barnes, Halbert and Denham Families" published in October 1979, although I have never actually seen the book. I wonder if that book would possibly mention your Emmitt Dennis Barnes? Just a thought. Good luck in your search. Debbie Wein Aurora, CO
I'm seeking burial information concerning persons held at the North Texas Lunatic Asylum between 1887 and 1895. I believe that my great grandmother, Fannie (Mrs. C. B.) Fleet was a patient during this time, and probably died prior to 1895. Terrell State Hospital has no record concerning Fannie. family legend states that Fannie tried to kill my grandmother with a butcher knife, shortly after giving birth. (Some post partum depression, huh?) Following this event, Fannie was sent to the state hospital, where she died. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks . . . LHA

I think the State Hospital would be the only ones with the record of burials. Per Linda Harwell's "Kaufman County Death Notices", the Terrell newspapers have no mention of her death-- for some of the 1890-1909 period, the Terrell newspapers were pretty good about reporting deaths in the Asylum. Another tack would be to look in the county that she lived in (was committed from). The County Court records should record a lunacy case for her, and the minutes should be open records allowing you to confirm where she was sent (to Terrell or someplace else). The case file itself is a closed record and would require the permission of a judge to open. I know, however, that I was able to confirm the commitment of a person to North Texas Asylum in the 1890's from Navarro county by looking at that county's County Court lunacy minutes. This, of course, won't tell you when she died, but it would at least tell you where she was committed. Justin M. Sanders "I shot an arrow into the air. Dear LHA, Don't know if this will prove helpful to you or not, but thought I would share my story. Family history had it that my g-grandfather, John Hanks, had died in 1900 in Rusk State Hospital after he had been committed following brain injury due to a kick in the head by a horse. I wrote to them for records and they wrote back saying they had no such patient ever listed. I was perplexed for years, then finally, just a month or so ago, got info from another relative in the form of letters from Terrell State Hospital for the Insane written to my g-grandmother. It turns out that the family stories were right, just had the wrong hospital. It had never occurred to me that he might have been institutionalized somewhere else. Anyway, the moral here is that there was more than one mental institution. You might want to try others to see if they have her listed. ----- Original Message ----- From: "B. I'm looking for information about Franklin Pierce Hobbs, b 1858, d 1927 Texas, in 1860 Kaufman Co TX census. Frank was the son of Hiram and Martha Garrett Hobbs who moved to Kaufman County from Tishomingo Co MS sometime before the Civil War. He married Sara Caroline LNU before 1887 when my grandfather William Thomas Hobbs was born. Sara died when William Thomas was very young and Frank remarried and had more children. I'm especially interested in identity of William Thomas' mother and stepmother and half siblings but all Hobbs information welcomed.
