Forwarding this from someone who is not on our list - yet: "I don't know if I have the right person for a lookup or question, but do you know if the library in Kaufman County has a record book of the school taxes of 1855-1860? I am needing the names and ages of students attending school during these years as I am unable to locate a family on the 1850 census. I feel that the family moved to Kaufman County after the census was taken. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Posted on: Kaufman Co. Tx Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Kaufman/11111 Surname: this is not my line ------------------------- You had posted a message somewhere looking for a John B. Turner in Terrell, Kaufman Co, TX in the North TX hospital for the insane. This is not my line but as I was also looking for someone there I did check for you. I found no John B. Turner. There were quite a few other Turner names. I looked thru the Images Online at Ancestry.com. I only looked thru the hospital pages not the entire county. My person I'm looking for had Huntington's disease which is inherited. Her name is Dolly Romans b. 1865

I'm not familiar with an 1890 City directory. There was a statewide Texas directory done in 1892 and I have the parts of it that deal with Kaufman county towns (Kaufman, Terrell, Forney, Kemp, etc). These directories were pretty much strictly merchants, etc.-- not everyone who lived in the town. > Does Kaufman have a Genealogical Society I might contact? There is a society in Kaufman called "Pastfinders"-- but I'll have to defer to others who are more familiar with the organization to tell you more about it. Justin M. Does anyone know if Kaufman happened to have a City Directory in 1890. If they did, I wonder who might have access to it, that is, a library or someone of that nature. Does Kaufman have a Genealogical Society I might contact? Thanks. Margaret

Looking for information on one Thomas Reeves b. ca 1787 in SC. He is listed on the 1850 Kaufman Co. TX census living with his wife, Elizabeth also age 63 born in KY. They are living next door to Jemiah (Jeremiah??) Merriman age 36 b. GA and his wife, Narcissa and their children Thomas, Robert, and William. I think there is a Merriman-Reeves connection through Merriman Pounds whose granddaughter Sophronia married into the Reeves line. I would like to track down this other Merriman if possible. To all of you, not only on these lists, but also on lists throughout the e-mail area that have been so wonderful and helpful...... I thank each and every one of you. There has been a fantastic response to my requests and pleas from people from all over the country. For those that are in the areas mentioned of the murder and the burial.... God Bless each and everyone of you. Because of the e-mails that have come in lately, I have been able to contact the funeral home, leave a message to younger son of Harrell and Dot Gordon who I'm sure is having a very hard time with all of this, and even prayers for the son that committed the murder. By the way..... I must make it clear that I've received information that he may not have confessed to the murders as I was first informed. So..... I'm still waiting for all the facts to come in as all of us should do I suppose. It's only that it's a very difficult time for so many of the family members right now. Anger is the first feeling we! have..... sadness comes soon after but doesn't totally replace the anger. At least not yet. Bless each of you.... Ric

Expanding my search from Anderson & Henderson Counties to Kaufman Co. Looking for any information on the death of my G. Grandfather, Dr. William Harris FAIN, age 33 years old, about 1888-89. He was residing in Henderson Co, at the time of his death, but I can't find any records or obituaries there. Hoping someone might find him in a surrounding county like Kaufman. Thanks so much! Robbie

My Grandfather, William L. Phillips, and wife Julia were living in Kaufman during the time period of 1889 to at least 1900. I found them on the 1900 Census. In the family were my two oldest uncles, Eugene, b. 1893 and Byron, b. 1896. To my complete surprise, there was indication on the census form that they had four other children who apparently died as infants. I had no knowledge of this at all. There is no way Texas Public Records/Vital Statistics could help because I have no information to give them. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what direction I might go in to find out anything at all about these four infants? I was so shocked because I thought I knew all of my Aunts and Uncles personally. To have run into this has left me totally blank. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks much, Margaret
Hello all, This is not a commercial, but I have to tell you that I just bought my first census CD and am having a ball with it. I highly recommend it to any of you who are considering switching to CD from using microfilm. At a very reasonable cost of only $15, I think it is well worth the investment in this genealogy hobby of mine. Anyway, I got the 1910 for Kaufman Co. and I need some help with the Boykins, if possible. There is a Claude Boykin age 29 with his wife Maggie and little daughter Bertha age 1. I cannot place this individual into our family. Does anyone know where he belongs? There is what looks like a James E. Boykin age 33 b. in MS, married 15 years to Willie T. age 32. Their children are Elsie, William, Raymond, Earl, Truman, Genie, and Homer. The last name is very difficult to read and may not be Boykin - I did see a Bufkin family towards the end of the census. If anyone is familiar with this family, please contact me. Thanks as always. Lissa Johnston [email protected] I never intended to become a run-of-the-mill person. --Barbara Jordan
On May the 8th 2001 a cousin of mine and his wife were murdered by their oldest son (who confessed). My cousin's name was Harrell Edwin Gordon. He and his wife, Dorothy "Dot" were shot at their home just outside of Terrell, Kaufman Co., Texas by Andrew Niles Gordon. The funeral is going to be in Waco, Texas at the Wilkerson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home at 1:30 in the afternoon. My plea to anyone in the area who might have access to the news papers if you could send them to me. I'll pay for the cost of the papers AND any other costs incurred. Please, is there anyone out there who might be able to help me? Fred (Ric) Gordon 1st cousin once removed to the deceased 2nd cousin to the murderer
