I was able to obtain a death certificate from the Kaufman County Courthouse clerk by calling 972-932-4331. I have to admit that it took a bit of arguing to get them to make sure of its existence then I had to send a letter to them stating why I wanted it, on whom, date of death, relation, etc. I also had to send them a copy of my driver's license. I don't know if this will help you, but it's worth a try.
There are WHITELEYs there. I found not WHITNEYs. KK Hunt

The name Whitney is listed on an index to the Kaufman City Cemetery. I am wondering if anyone has access to the transcription and can let me know who the Whitney is that is listed. I am looking for Silas Whitney and Mary Ann Johnson Whitney who reportedly died in this area - he in 1897 and she about 1885. Thanks to anyone who is able to help. Debi
Records show tha these two were married in Kaufman County in l849. Are probably my great grand parents and I would like to know why their two children were living with relatives at time of l860 census? The children's names were Thomas Jefferson Parsons, Born l853 and Texana Parsons, Born l850. Texana married Frances Marion Hudnell.
My husband might be able to search for his relatives in this cemetery while on business in Dallas sometime. I was wondering if there is an office on the grounds or someone in charge who my husband could ask for information on locating burials within the cemetery. Karin Weaver California
What does this query have to do with Kaufman County TX? Do you have info that the WARDWELLs were ever in Kaufman County, as Mexia is not in Kaufman County and a long distance from here. K K Hunt Kaufman TX
I am looking for information about Barbara Hamilton Wardwell, James F. Wardwell, or any of their children. I know they lived in or around Mexia, Texas in 1944. Any help would be appreciated.
Is there a published index to marriages in Kaufmann about 1900? I am interested in any information about the above husband - DAN HARBIN. They are on the 1900 census with 4 stepchildren born in the 1890's, so I figure they must have just married. The stepkids were all born in TX. What puzzles me is it looks like he was born in DK - this is a southern family and I wonder if that is correct. Does anyone have access to the actual census? Maybe it should have been OK. Thanks for any help. Joan Marie way out in Oregon
Your Gideon Pemberton and his wife Mahala Koger are supposed to be the parents of George Washington (not Gideon W.) Pemberton, and the inlaws of the Elizabeth Ann Porter Pemberton who is probably my ggg aunt Eliza Porter. Gideon and Mahala Pemberton died early, leaving orphaned children. The parents of Gideon Pemberton the husband of Mahala Koger are supposed to be George Pemberton and his wife Mary Lyon. If you search on ancestry for 'Washington Pemberton', you will find a database maintained by a lady who is descended from another child of George Pemberton. He had three? wives and twenty-two? children... I would be happy to correspond, if you wish to email me offlist.

Kathey, I noticed that you have done geneoloyg research for "years" and wonder if you know anything about inmates at the North Texas Insane Asylum? I have received some general informations from The Terrell Centenial 1873 - 1973. I am searching for information about my great grand-mother, Fannie (or Mary Francis) Fowler Fleet. I believe she was married to Charles B. Fleet in Kaufman County in 1885, and was comitted to the asylum in 1887. Perhaps she died there, because Mr. Fleet married another Fannie in Hunt County in 1890. Any hints as to how I can find her burial place would be appreciated. Thanks, Linda H. Wanda There are records for Camp Ground Cemetery and Dry Creek Cemetery. I have complete enumerations of persons buried at both places. I do not know who Sadie White is and do not find her listed on any of the documents I have for either cemetery or the church at Poetry, but in all the years I have done genealogical & historical research for persons of Kaufman County and been involved with cemetery preservation here I have never heard of "a fire" that destroyed any of the records for Camp Ground and/or Dry Creek Cemeteries . Nor is there any mention of such a fire in any of the historical publications about Poetry or the church; in Kaufman History Vol 2 in the story about the Poetry Church it mentions that a very complete set of records has been kept since 1916. The persons you name in your post are buried at Camp Ground, however, according to the dates on the tombstones, it appears Caroline would be the mother of Albert and/or Gideon, as she was born 1847 and died 1911. The records show Albert was born 1884 & Gideon was born 1876. If you need assistance with ascertaining info on persons buried in eitheir of these places, please contact me direct. My father (Tommie Guy Pemberton) was the son of Albert Sidney Pemberton. A.S. Pemberton died at home in the 1940s at Poetry (Kaufman County). He is buried at the Camp Ground Cemetary in Poetry. All the files for this cemetary were lost in the 50s when there was a church fire. This information is from Sadie White the local historian for the Camp Ground Cemetary. I last spoke to Ms. White in the early 90s. I am not sure she is still living. There is a Gideon Pemberton and also a Caroline Pemberton buried at this cemetary. Gideon may be the brother of A.S. and Caroline Gideon's wife. On the death certificate for A.S. his wife Bessie was the informant. She listed him as an orphan. I do know Albert Sidney was one of four children, I do not know his parents names. His sister Alice Pemberton Chaney (not sure of the spelling on her married name) was married to Will Chaney and they had no children. She died sometime in the early 1950s and is buried at Dry Creek Cemetary! in Poetry. Will Pemberton a brother of A.S. was married first to Queen Pemberton and they had no children. After Queen's death sometime before the 1950s, Will Pemberton married Bessie, either Marsh or Yates was her maiden name. They also lived at Poetry and Will Pemberton died in the mid-1950s. He is also buried at Dry Creek Cemetary. I do not know who the other sibling is for Albert Sidney but I heard the name Gideon mentioned as a relative. I will be in that area in early September and will try to go by the Camp Ground Cemetary and get dates for you. The Dry Creek Cemetary has been vandalized and the old headstones broken and destroyed. I vaguely remember Ms. White mentioning the records for the Dry Creek Cemetary were also destroyed in the fire at the Camp Ground Church. A.S. had four children Carolyn, Ellen, Tommie Guy, and Katrina. My email address is [email protected], I hope this information will be helpful to you in your search. Wanda Pemberton

For Kathey Hunt: Thought you and the List might enjoy this: Dear Ancestor ------------- Your tombstone stands among the rest Neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out On polished marble stone. It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh and blood and bone Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor ... the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder how you lived and loved I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot And come to visit you. Thanks to Doris ! From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Lloyd D. Ellis
