    1. [TXKAUFMA-L] Gammell's Laws of Texas online
    2. Justin M. Sanders
    3. I recently came across a website that I thought might be of interest. It is http://texinfo.library.unt.edu/lawsoftexas/ The University of North Texas has put H.P.N. Gammell's "Laws of Texas" (vols 1-10) online. This collection spans all the laws passed by Texas from the Mexican period, through the Republic, up to 1897. Laws relating to the creation of Kaufman county, altering its boundaries, cutting off Rockwall county, incorporating the town of Kaufman, incorporating schools in Kaufman, Rockwall, Cedar Grove and Johnson's Point, and incorporating toll bridges across the East Fork of the Trinity and King's Creek are among its contents. In addition to special laws relating to Kaufman county, there are general laws relating to topics of genealogical interest-- if your ancestor owned a saloon, you can find what license requirement he had to meet, for example. Unfortunately, it is a little hard to search through. But there is a great deal of interesting material in it which helps to understand the period. Justin M. Sanders "I shot an arrow into the air. 1. Re: [TXKAUFMA-L] 1890 census archives fire
    2. JNelson--You must be able to some pretty bad stuff (stuff in bad shape, that is). From Emily Croom's "The Genealogist's Companion & Sourcebook," 1st edition, page 19, column 1: "1890 Census-Surviving Population Schedules TEXAS -- Justice Precinct 6 in Ellis County: about 43 families. Mountain Peak town in Ellis County: 14 families. Ovilla Precinct in Ellis County: only the households of Whitfield F. Bockett and Wilhering/Whithering W. Wood. Precinct 5 in Hood County: only the William Locklin/Lockley family (name spelled both ways on the same page). Justice Precinct 6 in Rusk County: only the Dallas Forman(?) family. Justice Precinct 7 in Rusk County: only the Joseph J. Wallace. Trinity town in Trinity County: only the William T. Evans family. Precinct 2 of Trinity County: about 26 families. Kaufman town in Kaufman County: only Green S. Clark, Sr., and his wife. The place designation of this entry is illegible on the microfilm but must have been identified in some other way." So you read more than what was published!!! Gee, can I send you some really bad stuff that I can't read :) This book also lists: ALABAMA- Perry Co. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -1/2 roll GEORGIA-Muscogee County - 2 families ILLINOIS- McDough County - 240 households MINNESOTA-Wright Co - 1 family NEW JERSEY - Jersey City - 3 families NEW YORK - Westchester Co - 1 family. Clinton Co - 3 households SOUTH DAKOTA - Union Co - 1 household I have the details, but I didn't want to type them out in full. 1. [TXKAUFMA-L] Re: Jones Kaufman
    2. Some people have thought that George Washington Jones and Richard R. Jones were brothers. I have not been able to find any proof of it. My Richard R. Jones came from Bibb county, Alabama around 1849. I do not know his siblings or parents. Richard married Rebecca in Jackson county, Georgia in 1817. On the census it says he was born in NC. George Washington Jones said he was born in Kentucky.

    1. [TXKAUFMA-L] Re: Jones Kaufman
    2. Dianne, do you know any of George Washington or Richard Jones's brothers? I am wondering if these two could possibly be related to my Jesse L. Jones that came to Kaufman County in the 1850's. We think he left his parents and siblings, sold his land in Houston County TX. and moved to Kaufman Co. TX. where he married Mary (Mollie) Louisa Moody in 1859. He possibly was visiting relatives and met his wife, Mary Louisa. I am trying to find something that could connect George Washington Jones, Richard Jones and Jesse R. Jones (Jesse R. is Jesse L. Jones father. He lived in Houston County. TX. ) George Washington Jones was 73 years on the 1860 Census.....Richard Jones was 62 on the 1850 Census and Jesse R. Jones was born in 1788-89 and in 1850 he would have been 62-63 years old. Jesse R. Jones was born in S. Carolina, but no one has been able to find him there. I think it is possible that his family lived in N. Carolina. I am interested in what you have and hope there is a connec! tion. Thank you.
