    1. [TXKAUFMA-L] Re: Carters from Alabama
    2. Hi Kathey, I have llooked through all my SC, AL, TX Carters and cannot connect the names of your C's with my husband's C's. But since they were all from AL to TX there is bound too be a kinship there. Check the Limestone Co., TX census for Carters. Good Luck, Annette

    1. [TXKAUFMA-L] Messages from Nowhere
    2. Justin M. Sanders
    3. Occasionally on this Mailing List, you will see messages that seem to come from nowhere-- like you've walked in on the end of a conversation. This is due to the changes Rootsweb/Ancestry made when they combined the GenConnect Message Boards. For a year or so, any message posted to one of the Kaufman County GenConnect message boards has been automatically sent also to this mailing list. This was done using a program called a "gateway". Before the boards were changed in June 2001, any gatewayed message was clearly labelled as such-- so people knew that the message to which someone was replying was originally on the message boards. Now, however, the gatewayed messages are not labelled, and the result often looks strange-- a person says something that seems to come from nowhere-- you can't tell who the person is responding to or even (in some cases) what the topic of conversation is. I'm told that gatewayed messages will begin to be labelled again sometime in the near future, and that will be a big help. Until then, List members should keep in mind that *some* messages on this List are actually gatewayed messages. If you respond to them on the List, the original person may never see your response. You'll need to respond on the message board. If you post to the message board, I would suggest that you include some context with your message, so when it is forwarded to the Mailing List, the readers will be able to determine (1) that you originally posted to the Board, (2) to whom you are responding, and (3) what topic you are discussing. Even when labelling resumes, I would suggest that you do these things, since it will still assist the Mailing List readers. Justin M. Sanders "I shot an arrow into the air. It fell Dept. of Physics to earth I know not where." --Henry Univ. of South Alabama Wadsworth Longfellow confessing [email protected] to a sad ignorance of ballistics.

    3. There is no way to do a LOOK UP on a Death Certificate without going to the courthouse and looking at the records. To get the info you want you will need to contact the Kaufman County Clerk's Office and obtain a copy of the Death Certificate from them (if the person died in Kaufman County ) or from the State of Texas, if they died elsewhere in the state. The County Clerk can be reached at 972-932-4331. If you are wanting an Obituary for that person - in hopes the parents are listed in it - you can send a $5.00 donation & a SASE ( for each obit of which you desire a copy ) to : Kaufman County Library Genealogy Dept. 3790 So Houston St Kaufman TX 75142 hope this helps K K Hunt Kaufman

    1. [TXKAUFMA-L] Re: CARTERS from Alabama
    2. I researched the Alabama, Crenshaw Co. Carters for my mother-in-law Frankie June Carter. She is dau of Henderson Frank, son of Henderson Frank, son of Benjamin H. He was born in SC as was his wife Drucilla Jane Dillashaw, she of French descent. Ben served in the Alabama 33rd out of Dale county where he lived at the time. He survived the war to live and work at Dennerd's Bluff, Monrow Co., Alabama as a (sic) millir. Drucilla (called Jane) returned to Crenshaw county apparently a widow to live with her son William and family. William (Wild Bill) was killed in a famous knife fight in late 1890's. There is a plaque with his name and others in a cemetery in Brantley. If you need more detailed stuff, I will get my Carter info out of storage and send you. Good luck-the Carter stuff is interesting.

    3. Why don't you scan all the photos & submit them to the Kaufman County GenWeb site for placement there. There are pages for photos on the site. We could then ask the public if they recognize the interiors of the stores of which you have no identity. Abby, the Kaufman Webmaster can be reached at: [email protected] Kathey Kelley Hunt Laufman TX
