I wouldn't be surprised is this is the town that you are looking for since the isn't and never has been a Maybank, Texas. Mabank, however, is pronounced as Maybank. It was named after to men, Mason and Eubank. My family lives in this town and I will be going there in mid-December. I will be glad to loom something up for you while I am there.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FkB.2ACE/1065 Message Board Post: I am the great-great granddaughter of Dandridge Thomspon Galey (Gailey), father of John Elam Galey. D.T. Galey was murdered by Tom Jones and possibly by General Joseph Wheeler on Wheeler's plantation in Lawrence County, Alabama. John Elam Galey was wounded at the same time. He moved to Texas before Jones' trial, and Wheeler, acting as Jones' attorney, managed to get an aquittal. Rumors are that Wheeler paid Galey to move to Texas (his widowed mother eventually followed him) in order to keep him from testifying at the trial. Anyone a descendant of John Elam who knows the story from family history?
