We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted information about historical markers in Texas which identify/describe poorhouses (or the people who supervised or helped establish them) from the following counties: Anderson, El Paso, Galveston, Hill, Kaufman, Navarro, Parker and Wise. DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on TEXAS on the table of states. You will find the chart of historical markers at the top of the page (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

Crandall (note the spelling) is located about 8 miles to the west of Kaufman on U.S. 175 (i.e. between Kaufman and Dallas). There is a Crandall Cemetery as well as some smaller cemeteries in the country nearby. A list of the surnames of persons buried at Crandall City Cemetery is provided at the Kaufman Texas GenWeb Project page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txkaufma/cemeteries/crandall.htm Justin M. Johns father was William Benson and his birth mothers name is not known. I am assuming Johns mother died. William Benson later wed Sarah E. Parker in Marshall County, Alabama and they had 3 children together- Charles Frank (went by Frank), Maggie and Zachariah (Zack). William died and Sarah moved to Palmer, Texas with her 3 younger children. She moved there to be close to her brother William Parker and his wife Rachel Bruner Parker. John (Willis) and his wife Emma Ayres and their family also moved to Ellis County. Sarah died 2-11-1902. John and his family moved to Scurry where he finished raising his younger siblings. I have a lot more to learn about the Bensons. I do know that Charles Frank married Bertha. Maggie wed Jefferson Polson and Zack wed Bessie Duncan. I would appreciate any additional help. I will gladly share the information that I have and wil! l collect on this family. Thank you.
Does any one have any thing about a Lucille Hamilton being shot to death in the 1920s or 30s? Her brother accidentally shot her with a pistol I think. She should be buried in Terrell. I would really appreciate the info. An Obit would be nice. Thanks, Wanda Blair Ruby http://familytreepages.com/members/wandablair/
