He was a native of Cottonport, LA and a resident of Beaumont for 55 years//Arrangements are pending at Knighton's Funeral Home//Survivors are his wife, Mrs Bertha Payne of Beaumont; four daughters, Mrs Rebecca Sias and Mrs Ida Lee Gilmore both of Beaumont; Mrs Birgie Simon and Mrs Rosa Lee Woods of Los Angeles, Calif; four sons, Milton Payne Jr, of Los Angeles, Wilbur Payne of San Antonio, Harold Bell and Archie Bell, both of Beaumont; two brothers, Patrick Payne and John Payne, also of Beaumont; his father Alfred Payne Crosby; his stepmother, Mrs Margaret Wiley of Beaumont; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren His was listed in the Texas Death Index as Milton Silton Payne, Galveston CO TX, Sept 27 1969, cert # 064006 Beaumont Enterprise/ Friday Aug 28, 1970/ Col 1/ Pg 7/ James Woods, 63, of 1225 Lincoln was dead on arrival at Baptist Hospital at about 9 pm Thursday after suffering an apparent heart attack// He was a retired employee of Mobil Oil Corp after 40 years service//Funeral arrangements will be announced by Mercy Funeral Home//He was a native of Opelousas, LA and had lived in Beaumont 60 years. Note I looked in the rest of the obits for the month of Aug but there was not any more announcements made on James Woods. I did fine Ida Payne listed in the Texas Death Indexes, Jefferson CO TX, Dec 29, 1950, cert #59335 so her death date was the same as the death date you have. I had planned on going back thru the newspaper to see if I might have some how missed the obit. The microfilm reader was messing up on me so I will have to take another look when I go back.
