I'm trying to complete a project by the end of the month for my family members and can't seem to find these articles. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated. 1) On July 01, 1967, my Aunt Vera Harper Wallace and 8 children of Port Arthur, Texas were involved in an automobile accident with a train. Vera and all of the children except one were killed in this crash. We have family in Beaumont and Port Arthur so I"m quite sure the story could have run in either newspaper. 2) On April 20, 1959, my Uncle Isiah Payne died by jumping into the Neches River in Beaumont. Note I looked in the rest of the obits for the month of Aug but there was not any more announcements made on James Woods. I did fine Ida Payne listed in the Texas Death Indexes, Jefferson CO TX, Dec 29, 1950, cert #59335 so her death date was the same as the death date you have. I had planned on going back thru the newspaper to see if I might have some how missed the obit. The microfilm reader was messing up on me so I will have to take another look when I go back. I did look for your Ida Harper Payne yesterday but was not able to locate it. I will check in the Texas Death index and see if I can fine her death date listed there. The death indexes are located in another building and I did not have the time to walk over to it. I will be out tomorrow and will look for your obits on Ida, and the other two-James Wood Sr and Milton Payne Sr.

John Rilyn Strickland born - April 12, 1901 in Mississippi died - October 12, 1948 in Corsicana, Navarro, Texas buried in Richland Cemetery in Richland, Navarro, Texas He was first married to Mary Louise McLendon and had two children : Lineol Elizabeth Strickland who married Robert E. Veale and Jack Eugene Strickland. Either Mary passed away or her and John divorced and he moved to Navarro County, Texas where he married Dorothy Anglin. Thye had 3 children: John Rilyn Strickland, Jr (lives near Huntsville, Texas), James Allyn Strickland (My brother in law who was killed in a car accident in November 1980) and Edward Ray Strickland who was also killed in a car accident in 1995 somewhere up north. I am trying to find out the names of John's parents and also any brothers and sisters he might have had. Hopefully somone out there can help me with this research. Linda Moore

If you do not know the death date of the person (it helps if you at least know the year) you are looking for you can look at the Texas Death Indexes and fine a date. The death indexes are at Tyrrell Historical Library, which is a block away. Then you just start looking about two or three days past the death date. You usually fine something but not always. If the person dies in another town beside Beaumont there is usually a weekly listing of those deaths. You just have to look. I hope this helps.
