Check Social Security Death Index (found on ancestry.com) for a listing for them. This may give you a date of death for them which you can use to find an obit. in newspapers where they lived or sometimes from a paper from where they were original from will run a obit of a formal resident. If you find an entry for them you can also request copies of their Social Security application that may prove informative. Cheers!
