I just received a copy of the Confederate Pension Application filed by my gggrandfather's widow. He was John McLemore b ca 1822 in North Carolina. The application made by his wife shows that he served in the CSA, 21st Texas Infantry, Company K, Speights Regiment. He lived in the Erin Community of Jasper County, Texas at the time of the war. The first application made by his spouse (Sarah Ann E. Boyette McLemore) in 1899 was rejected, with a letter from the War Department stating "There are no rolls on file in this office of Company K, 21st Texas Infantry, CSA, and no record has been found of the service, capture or parole of John McLemore, as a member of this organization." She applied again in 1907, with two witnesses, J.W. Claud and M. Morgan, both stating that John McLemore served with them. This time the pension was approved. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Anyone know any of the history of Co K? Melinda McLemore Strong
