    3. One of the joys of genealogy is the sharing of information, especially with new-found cousins. However, due to the naivete of newcomers and provided features by for profit companies, such as creating ones on Web page, I feel I must stop this practice. I have sent various individuals quite a bit of the information I have amassed on my family, with the caveat that it was for personal use, especially since some of the info I had was copyrighted or the result of research by others than myself, to whom I've always cited as the source of info. Much to my dismay I've found my information posted on created Web sites at the Family Tree Maker location. Despite warnings and such by FTM two individuals had posted the information I had sent them, as their own. One has since removed the info after I let him know I did not appreciate what he did..the other still maintains his web page, although he did not post the info exactly as I sent it to him rather incorporating it with info received from other sources, much of it erroneous. In any event, be careful to whom you send your research and include copyright info, etc in the file someplace. Sites such as FTM are taking this info and in turn putting it on CD and selling it, profiting from the work of many genealogists.

    1. [TXJASPER-L] families in Magnolia Springs
    2. KAREN KOLEN
    3. I am trying to find about about 2 families (Coopers/Sims) of Magnolia Springs, Texas. My grandmother was Lora Cooper born in 1895 - she died in approximately 1927. I know she is related to the coopers who own(ed) land in Magnolia Springs. My grandfather was Wilmer Sims (from Louisana) born 1880 - he died (supposedly in 1936) He worked with the railroad. I think they were married in Jasper County - in approx. 1917. Can anyone help me locate records on my grandparents or at least tell me where to start? (marriage records, deeds, or who they are related to)

    2. Ken R. King
    3. I have found an old letter to the effect that my great-great-grandmother, Mary "Polly" King was supposed to have died in 1901 and was buried in the "Jasper graveyard". She was born in 1827. Were death records kept in Jasper County at that time? How about cemetery records? She may likely have had an unmarked grave.

    3. Hi, According to Madelein Martin's book MORE EARLY SOUTHEAST TEXAS FAMILIES. Ruffin Turner's wife is listed as Sarah Conn, who by the way had a brother, Robert Conn, my g-g-g-grandfather. My g-g-grandmother, Penelope Conn,(g Robert Conn's daughter. Mrs. Martin's book said that Ruffin and Sarah Turner went to California in the gold rush. Her book said his grant was located on Thickety (Everitt Creek) in Jasper County and the south line of the survey is in the north edge of the town of Roganville and that sometime in 1838 Turner started building a large and comfortable house in the southwest corner of his survey near a cluster of springs known as Indian Springs. A historical building medalion was awarded in 1966 according to Mrs. Martin. Hope to hear from you again. Norma Newsom Pollard. Michael White wrote: > Here is my Jasper County TURNERs. There is a Character Certificate in the General Land Office of Texas dated October 10th, 1834, District of Bevil (later Jasper County) stating that he had 4 children at the time. He and his family seem to have remained in Jasper County while his children were born. Ruffun shows up in 1838 on Returns from Jasper County Board of Land and in the 1850 Census with all of his children except Nancy Emily, who had not been born at the time of the census. Sometime between 1850 and 1860, the Turners removed to California where they appear in Tulare County, CA. Aaron, Jane and Thomas are no longer living in Ruffun & Sarah's household. Nancy's death certificate lists the family coming to CA in 1855 and has her mother's maiden name as CONN, however there is quite a bit of incorrect information on this certificate, so this information is suspect (a non-relative gave the information). Her brother's Sashwell and David's death certificates give their mother as Sara BEATY.
