    2. Richardson_Bill
    3. I've never seen a specific reference to Co K of the 21st, since the regiment existed for a very short period of time. It was formed in Nov 1864 by combining the 11th (Speight's) Battalion and 4 companies of Griffins Battalion. It never saw active service and was disbanded in May 1865. Go to: http://block.dynip.com/wtblockjr and search that site for additional information that may be available there. W.T. Block, noted historian for the southeast Texas area has written extensively on Civil War activities in and around Jefferson county where Speight's battalion served for most of the war. -----Original Message----- From: Melinda M. 3. I just received a copy of the Confederate Pension Application filed by my gggrandfather's widow. He was John McLemore b ca 1822 in North Carolina. The application made by his wife shows that he served in the CSA, 21st Texas Infantry, Company K, Speights Regiment. He lived in the Erin Community of Jasper County, Texas at the time of the war. The first application made by his spouse (Sarah Ann E. Boyette McLemore) in 1899 was rejected, with a letter from the War Department stating "There are no rolls on file in this office of Company K, 21st Texas Infantry, CSA, and no record has been found of the service, capture or parole of John McLemore, as a member of this organization." She applied again in 1907, with two witnesses, J.W. Claud and M. Morgan, both stating that John McLemore served with them. This time the pension was approved. Has anyone else run into a similar situation? Anyone know any of the history of Co K? Melinda McLemore Strong

    1. [TXJASPER-L] MORGANS OF JASPER COUNTY TX
    2. I am researching the MORGANS of Jasper County, TX. My MORGANS came from Ireland to Duplin County, NC before 1800 and then moved in 1826 to SC for 2 years and then to Lowndes County, Ga. and Decatur County Ga. in 1830. The family split up in 1850, some going to Jasper County, TX and some to Madison/Taylor counties Fl. Reuben MORGAN SR. Who married Dorcas NEWTON, firstly and then married Perthena BELL WILLIAMS, was the progenitor of this family. Rueben's grandson, Malachi, came to GA with the family after his father, John died in SC. Malachi was one of the ones who went to TX. Would the person who had the information on the MORGANS saying that there were 2 different families of these MORGANS, please e-mail with the info on the family? Also anyone needing info on this family, please let me know. Genieroots

    1. [TXJASPER-L] [Fwd:Epidemics of the USA]
    2. Melissa Franks Gantt
    3. This came through my WILLETT mailing list. I thought it was very informative. In case you ever wondered why a large number of your ancestors disappeared during a certain period in history, this might help. Epidemics have always had a great influence on people - and thus influencing, as well, the genealogists trying to trace them. Many cases of people disappearing from records can be traced to dying during an epidemic or moving away from the affected area. Some of the major epidemics in the United States are listed below: > 1657 Boston Measles > 1687 Boston Measles > 1690 New York Yellow Fever > 1713 Boston Measles > 1729 Boston Measles > 1732-3 Worldwide Influenza > 1738 South Carolina Smallpox > 1739-40 Boston Measles > 1747 CT,NY,PA,SC Measles > 1759 N. 3. In a message dated 28 May, Ypmiller@aol.com wrote about the Morgans, and cemetary lookups on Duncan Morgan and Eliza Morgan, as well as the descendents of Malichi Morgan. These two Morgan families are DIFFERENT sets of Morgans-one set lived in the Erin-Zion Hill area, and one set lived in Magnolia Springs. I am directly descended from both sets, and they ARE NOT branches of the same family. One family was from North Carolina, and the other one from Georgia. They are probably distantly related, but as far as I have discovered, they were not related in Jasper County until the families began marrying into one another in this century. My great-grandmother was Zora Bertha Morgan Horn, daughter of Appalis Arabella Sims and Columbus Malichi Monroe Morgan. She married John Albert Horn, son of Jefferson Davis Horn and Sarah Elizabeth Barclay. Her son, Elvin, my grandfather, married Edith Laverne Morgan, daughter of Allen Edwin Morgan and Gladys Prewitt, September 20, 1947 in Newton. My grandmother's father, Allen Edwin Morgan, was the son of Ivan Morgan and Melissa Eppaline Westbrook. Ivan's father was William Ivan Morgan, and William Ivan's father was Duncan Morgan. Duncan Morgan was born in Sampson County, North Carolina. He married twice-the first time to Elizabeth Bell, daughter of Hezekiah Bell and Martha Baggett of Duplin County, North Carolina; she died on the migration to Texas in Georgia; he married his second wife in Decatur County, Georgia, two months after her death. I have lots of information on Duncan Morgan, his first wife Elizabeth Bell, his second wife, Eliza Kelly, and their ancestors, as well as where Duncan and Eliza are buried. I am descended from Elizabeth Bell and Duncan Morgan. I am in the middle of a move right now, but will be glad to trade more information later.
