I know he paid child support and he and his daughter had a few contacts throughout the years but never had a close relationship. Clarence remarried but we dont think he had any more children but this is something we cant be sure of. It is also rummered that he may have spent some time in a mental hospital? FYI: This is taken from the TX GEN-WEB page on Jasper County and it explains how the county divided in 1846 and Newton County was formed. I hope this information helps! Jasper County, located in Southeast Texas, was originally part of the Spanish "<A HREF="http://rootslady.com/RootsLady/universal/astdistr.htm">Atascosito District</A>" and under Mexican rule it became "Liberty District." In 1835, the present county was known as "Municipality of Bevil" or "Bevil's District." After Texas's independence, the district was divided into <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~txlibert/index.htm">Liberty</A>, <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~txjeffer/index.htm">Jefferson </A>and Jasper counties. At that time Jasper County included the land between the Neches and the Sabine rivers, but in 1846 it was cut in half, and <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~txnewton/">Newton </A>county was created from the eastern half. The 1835 census of Bevil's District enumerated 156 households and the 1850 Federal census of Jasper County had 192 households. The city of Jasper is the County Seat and was named for Sgt. William Jasper, hero of American Revolution. Paula LeBlanc Williamson Houston, TX

Yolanda: Many Thanks for taking time to answer this question. I think in some of my cases, the county divided or changed county lines somehow.(in other areas of the state) Farmers who owned their homes were not so inclined to move. Irene, In the case of Robert C. Myers, I am pretty sure that it was a move from one location to another. He and Jennie married in Newton County in 1897. His job is listed as a Locomotive Engineer in 1900; also listed is that they were renting a house, so there was no real estate to bind them to this location. Jennie's family were all from Kirbyville, so it is reasonable that they moved there, she is buried there dying in 1931. In some other cases, yes, the counties were revamped. People may never have moved from their original homestead but the boundaries did. Another factor is that a lot of the census takers were not familiar with the area and may have overlapped the boundary, in this case you could find individual's listed in two counties at the same time. Most of your dividing lines were usually a creek, or river, but in some instances there was nothing to let them know where to stop, usually they asked as they went if they did not have good maps of the area, especially in the early times. We are more in luck in East Texas, because most of the census takers were local citizens, that not only knew the people but the area very well. I hope this helps. Yolanda: Could you explain the reason why Robert C. Myers and family were listed in in Newton Co. in 1900 ;and in Jasper Co. in 1910? Did they move? Did the county line move? Did the census taker not know where the line was? Could you, please, discuss this problem. Sometimes I find towns or communities that move or migrate within a few miles of were they were, but across a county line? I have some information on the Swinney family, most of which you probably have. Moses and Nancy Swinney appear on the Jasper Co. Census for 1860, 1870, and 1880. Moses also appears in the Jasper Co. Commissioners Court Minutes, Vol. A. I have as children Adeline, b. ca. 1845 in Ark, who married a Sexton; Amanda, b. ca. 1861 in Tx; Bluford A., b. ca. 1855 in Tx, who married Sarah Jones; Emmab. ca. 1866 in Tx; Isabella T, b. c. 1853 in Tx, who married a Wilson; Martha A. E., b. ca. 1848 in Ala., who married a Smith; Maud, b. ca. 1870 in Tx; Nancy, b. ca. 1851 in La; Samuel H., b. ca. 1859 in Tx, who married Mattie E. Horn. There were some other Swinneys in Jasper Co. that I don't have connected, such as Charlotte, b. ca. 1835 who married a Monk, and F. J. Swinney, who appeared in JCCCM Vol A. I also didn't have your gggrandmother, Melissa. When was she born? Most of my info comes from the census and marriage records of Jasper Co, so I must have missed her somehow. Hope this helps. Carol, I don't think anyone has found proof yet to tie her father with Jeremiah, but the name Theophilus C. keeps popping up in both lines, so I think there will be a connection somewhere.
