    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AkB.2ACE/206.243.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Patricia - Charles A. Hancock of Company H (Newton County) was promoted to Ordnance Sergeant and transferred to the regimental staff. He was in charge of arms and ammunition. Don't have any reference to him as a cook, but that was pretty much an additional duty at the company level rather than something that would have been recorded.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AkB.2ACE/206.243.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Thomas. It is probably the right John Powell. My grandmother thought he was born about 1827 but as she was born in 1900, I don't know how she could have remembered if she had known. I will need to recheck the census paper for 19=869. For your paper, my ancestor Charles A. Hancock I believe was a cook in the regt. but it is probably already listed that way.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AkB.2ACE/206.243.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Patricia - There was a John Powell that served in Comany G (Jasper County). He was 30 in March 1862 when he joined. He is listed in every muster thru Feb. 1863. Unfortunately, all the other musters for 1863 are lost, so if he died in March, it would have been near Pine Bluff, Ark., probably at the hospital at White Sulphur Springs, which was one of the largest in the state at the time. The 13th left Arkansas for Louisiana in April 1863. Hope this helps.

Thomas was married first to John A. Powell who was killed in the Civil War. My grandmother believed it was 1863 and in Arkansas but no proof of this fact. Lucy had two children by John. John Walter Powell and Emma Luvenia Powell. I am a descendant of Emma. I have searched for Lucy's family and AA Thomas seemed the best possibility for Lucy's father. Would be interested in exchanging info and would love a picture if you have one. Patricia

    2. I had a chance to visit Thomas Co, Ga and they are a lot alike. The pines reminded me of Jasper Co and when our ancestors came to Texas, they must have felt at home and decided they had gone far enough. Patricia Haynes\(Hancock researcher

    3. Lisa, That is not impossible reasoning! I have been in touch with a Singletary researcher. He has a lot of Singletary info form his Singletary's. They were also from Thomas Co. GA. Many of our kin that we research in Jasper came from North Carolina, made a side stop in Ga. and sometimes in LA., and then came to Chambers, Jasper, Liberty, & Newton counties, not in that order! They must have heard some mighty good things about Texas and decided to move there! If you see any of your Peavy's with WOOD, SINGLETARY, JACKSON, marriages, keep us posted!!! Take care... He was discharged for disability at Pine Bluff, Ark. 9 Feb 1863. There had been an epidemic of pneumonia and typhoid at Camp Nelson that winter. William J. Peacock was discharged 24 May 1862 during the reorganization due to his age (54). He reenlisted 13 Jun 1863 after the law changed, and probably served the duration of the war. Neither of them show up on any of the casualty lists I have found.
