Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AkB.2ACE/330.1 Message Board Post: I have some info on the Williams family, and it is copied from a book that I copied in Newton Co. Lib. It states Richard (1780-1877) was born in N C. on Jan 22, 1780. He was married at least once and that was to Nancy Strother, who was born in Georgia in 1794, and they had eight children who are known - Francis, Elizabeth, Nancy, Henry, Elisha, Samuel, Eliza Jane, and George. Francis married Dicy ____ and came to Texas abt 1841; Elizabeth, the wife of Thomas H. Roddy of St Helena Parish, died in 1847 and was never in Tx.; Nancy md Henry Hall Womack and came to Tx after 1850; Henry William's wife was Frances Thompson, dau of Ephraim and Susan Grigsby Thompson; Elisha md Sarah Glenn, dau of James & Elizabeth Grigsby Glenn; Samuel's wife was Elizabeth Jones: and Eliza Jane was (1) the wife of David Glenn and (2) of. R. K. Ratcliff, Sr. Very little is known of George who may have died during the Civil War. Note: Richard was the first child of Stephen & Delilah Rhodes Williams, also a native of N. C. (Stephen & Delilah md in 1779). I am not a Williams desc, but some of them md into the Strawther family in Jasper Co Tx. Therefore, I have quite a bit of data on them. I have a gedcom I made to sort them all out, starting with Stephen & Delilah. I looked at a probate for Richard Williams, to see if it named any children that Nancy had in a prior marriage, to seek the parents of my husband's g-gfather. I think I have an original marriage certificate (not a copy of it) from Jasper Co. I'll have to locate it. I know it was a Ratliff marrige. I have a DAR record of Lola Strickland and her daughter, when they applied to DAR. Maybe I can locate it and give you some more info. I just happened to see your post, as I had put in some of the names that md Strawthers. Let me know if I can help. Betty Strawther

I am looking for anything on the Smith family at all. I have very little to go on. I do have Callie's siblings and parents, but don't know where the family lived, where the parents came from, or what her grandparents names were. I can find no records of her family at all. Her brother Preston md Sarah Etheline Jarrell, my mother's sister. He is also my father's cousin. Unfortunately, he has little memory of his family. I am trying to contact another sister named Margie, but as she is younger, don't know if she can help she might be. How are you connected? Anything that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Frances

    1. Re: [TXJASPER] Re: SMITH/GANDY
    2. Re: Your John Q. Smith I checked the index of "Primrose; Forks of the River Folks" by Bertie Primrose Bryant, and found a John Quincy Ellis, son of Alice Jane Smith and Wallace William Ellis. John Quincy Ellis was born 1887; Alice Jane was born 10-20-1864; her sister Martha Henrietta Smith, born 1-8-1860, was Wallace's first wife. It occurs to me that your John Q. Smith might be the brother of Alice and Martha. If you wish to pursue this, you might want to speak with Bertie Bryant. She lives in Jasper, Texas, and volunteers at the Genealogy Center at the courthouse there. LaVerle Harvey Ellis Tyler, Texas

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AkB.2ACE/349.1 Message Board Post: Frances, I am having the same problem. I am the grandson of John Q. Smith and Mallie Rachel Gandy and, while the Gandy line is pretty well researched, the Smiths are perplexing. Apparently there is a John Q and Thad E Smith listed in the same household on a Jasper County census; however, their parents' birth states are different. John Q. Smith was married twice, and Mallie is his second wife. John and Mallie married in 1901 or 1902, and their land straddles both Jasper and Newton counties. I believe John Q. was born December 12, 1865, and Mallie and Sallie were born January 29, 1888. Sallie Gandy is her twin sister. Arrie is a sister. Other Gandy siblings are R. J. (Uncle Dick), Travis, Alpha Bell, and Ina ("Teck"). I'm not sure about Daniel Herbert Smith, Sr. He was quite a character. Our family visited him on several occasions after he and Sallie divorced. His new wife was much younger, and her name was Nettie. They had a son named Johnny Ray Smith when Daniel! was in his sixties. Daniel is either a brother or cousin of John Q. and Thad. If he is a brother, he was clearly much younger. Daniel and Sallie's children include Daniel Herbert, Jr., and Callie Smith Biscamp. My mother said more than once that her father (John Q.) always said he was from the "forks of the river." That would have been the Neches River, but not much help in census searching. I am continuing to search. Please let me know if you find anything. paul williamson
