I was stuck for a long time on my GGrandfather Josiah Moore. Everything I found on him was shown as J.W. Moore and I just found his first name last month, then I was able to find him on the 1850 Census with his parents James E. Moore and Sarah Jane Roberts, listed next door to them was his Grandfather Josiah Roberts. From the 1850 Census, Jasper Co., TX, page 229B, I was able to estimate the birth dates for the children shown still living at home. It is possible that there were some other children that were allready married and living elsewhere. The children I show are Sarah Jane Roberts, b. 24 Sept 1828 in MS, marr. James E. Moore, Cynthia Ann Roberts, b. ca. 1839 in MS, Nancy Roberts, b. ca. 1841 in MS, John Alexander Roberts b. ca. 1843 in TX, Elizabeth Roberts b.ca. 1844 in TX, George Washington Roberts b. ca. 1847 in TX. His wife is not listed on the 1850 census. I also found Josiah listed in the book "1840 Citizens of Texas, Vol. 3, Land Grants, by Gifford White, page 241. "Roberts, Josiah Oct 1841 320acres Jasper 27 Oct 1845....Roberts, Josiah Nov 1841 320 acres Jasper TX 6 Dec 1841. He is also listed on the 1846 Jasper Co., TX tax list. Please send me the info you have on George Washington and his family. Thanks, Sharon

Betty, Are you in Jasper Co.? I sure need someone who can do some lookups. I have the deed indexes, and most of the deed records on film locally, but there are several deed books that were not filmed. Thanks, Verna Reed Carlsbad, NM
No, I am sorry. I do not have any information regarding Lola Strickland or Sue Spivey. And thanks, I will ask about the land deed regarding Richard Williams. On another note, I found a reference to a B.A. Martin in Newton, Texas, that is supposed to have the Williams Family Bible. Have you ever run across this person (B.A. Martin) in your research? Just a thought...but are Eliza Jane and Elizabeth Williams the same person? I have seen more often then not where people named Elizabeth use the shortened version. I can understand this nickname but many from long ago I don't quite understand the shortened versions. Just a tip when looking for those elusive ancestors also look for the initials and nickname. The following are some of the more common without the obvious Bill, Bob, and Annie. Bertha = Birdie Cecelia = Celia, Seelia Charlotte = lotty/Lottie Elizabeth = Eliza, Betty, Betsy, Beth, Liz, Lizzie/Lizzy Francis/Frances - Fannie/Fanny Isabelle = Belle Letiticia = Lettie/Letty Lucinda = Lucy, Lula Margaret = Maggie, Peggy Martha = Patsy, Mattie Mary = Polly, Molly Nancy = Nannie/Nanny, Nan Sarah/Sara = Sallie/Sally Virginia = Jenny/Jennie Augustus = Gus Henry = Hank Isaac = Ike Jacob = Jake, Jay,
