I published a fair outline of the regiment's experiences in "Captain Jack and the Tyler County Boys" a couple of years ago. It is available at Heritage Village Museum in Woodville, TX. I completed my thesis in Dec. 2001 - it is a history of the 13th Texas, but it hasn't been published yet. If you have his service records, you may have noticed that he was acting regimental commander just before the surrender in Jun 1865.

I just found your note about his company in the Civil War. I have been unable to find anything about his company or his activities during Cival War with the exception of his service payroll records from the National Archives. Do you have any information about what company G did. By the way, Elias did have a younger brother named William Franklin Seale who died in Corsicann, TX in 1903.

Did he die in TX 30 Sept 1905? He is NOT buried in the Withers family cemetery now located on the Ft Knox KY military reservation, with his parents and six brothers. Lewis Meade is found in the 1880 Jasper co TX census with his 2nd wife, Mary Elizabeth (Cabell) Maze and two children, Lewis M. age 17, b. Louisiana and Mary R. age 11, b. TX. Published Withers records do not list the son. Did he live to be an adult? Is the Lewis Withers, age 34, in the Jasper co 1920 census from this family or one of the other Jasper co WITHERS families? The daughter, Mary R. listed in the 1880 census had an alleged middle name of Emoh. Withers data has her married to William Reese SHILLINGS on 6 Nov 1889, location unknown. Her birthdate is given as 28 Jul 1868 and her death in 1968. The TX death records have a Mary E. Shilling who died ! on 3 Apr 1968 in McLennan co TX listed as single, not widowed. Is this Mary E. (Withers) SHILLING? Does anyone have this family in their data?

I am looking for anyone with Lynn family connections in the Kirbyville/Jasper area around the early 1900s. My great-grandmother supposedly came from there and I was told she was orphaned and lived with an uncle. Her name was Jenny Lynn, married to Britt Willett (son of George Mitchell Willett & Sarah Salome Burks Willett) and moved to Newton and Merryville. She had a brother named Thurman Lynn who may have had a son named Carl. Thurman moved to the Fort Worth area as a young man and may have died in the early 1970s. Any information or leads will be greatly appreciated! This is my biggest dead end - as she is my great-grandmother. Thank you. Melissa Franks Gantt Greenville, TX
