Here is a real puzzle in late 1800s cross border migration. My GGrandfather, James A. Anderson (#1 below) was born in Nova Scotia Canada. Early in life he got wanderlust, travelled throughout NE and Eastern United States, and eventually ended up in Texas. There he married Lilla R. Cutter and the first 2 (John and Oscar Manning) of 6 children were born. Oscar Manning (#3 below) was born in Miami, Texas. The next youngest, Orlo Nyman (#4 below) was born in Nova Scotia Canada. So the family moved from Texas back to NS sometime between 11-Nov-1889 and 14-Sep-1890. I am posting this to ROBERTS, CLAY and JACK county lists because of the following: 1. Miami Texas, where Oscar Manning Anderson was born, is in ROBERTS county. 2. The following is a portion of a letter written by James A. Anderson, in 1877 and posted from Stampede Springs in CLAY County: "Stampede Springs Clay County Texas 1877 Dear Parents I have bought myself a place and hope that my investments may prove successful. I am much pleased with the country the lands are very productive and the sun very hot. The emigration into this country surpasses anything I ever saw. I have bought myself a place part bottom land and part timber which cost me about 300.00. Now the next thing that is wanted is an housekeeper which I shall soon look after when I get your consent. Now in regards to society I am much pleased with these people. I left a God fearing and a God worshipping people and have settled among some of the same good old Baptist. Father, last night I was at prayer meeting, afternoon, Sunday school, morning, preaching. Give me a comfortable home and Christ to enjoy in my heart and I care not for riches. Now father although I have purchased lands here don't fail to let me know if I am needed at home because I would not have you suffer while I am able to work. Father you will understand that I do not expect to make much money. I have a comfortable home and to enjoy good society is my object." 3. In a letter written by James A. Anderson, in July 1879 and posted from JACK County, he speaks of having married. 4. I have another letter posted from Adobe Walls, Hutcheson City, dated Nov. 11, 1889. I believe this is in ROBERTS County. Part of the letter reads: " We have moved since I last heard from you. We were surveyed (?) out of our land and we moved on a new place. I managed to convert my place in Jack Co. into cattle." And here is a 2 generation report listing my GGrandfather. James A. Anderson and his 6 children. #3, Oscar Manning Anderson is my Grandfather. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Patrick Hagan White Rock, BC, Canada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ 1. James A.
