There are no family stories about or momentos from our Great Grandfather Samuel Newman Sr, that may be due to the date of his death (1925), when my Father was only 18 and his parents had moved to Oklahoma, between 1915-20 and GGrandpa Newman stayed in Jack County. To the best of my knowledge, Sam Sr. was a farmer-rancher from the time he arrived in Texas, shortly after he was paroled from the Civil War as a Confederate Soldier. If his birth date is correct he lived to be 95 years old, quite a fete under the best of circumstances. I know that he moved his family to Jack County sometime in the 1890s, from Navarro County where he had lived for many years and many of his children were born. >From the Texas State Archives, copy of application for Confederate Soldier Pension #34180; Filed 15 May 1917, approved 1 June 1917: for "Sam Newman, of Loving, Young Co., TX, age 87 years, born in New York".
