    1. [TXJACK] Re: Hicks Cemetery, need location
    2. Take the Henrietta highway which I beleive is 148 out of Jacksboro going North. There is s sign on the Highway some 10 miles out saying Hicks Cemetery, however when you get on this dirt road there is no other sign about it. The cemetery is out in the pasture and still being used. I beleive the gate going thru the pasture is locked and there are some people living on this dirt road that can tell you who to see to get into it. Paul Smith

    1. [TXJACK] Re: Delta Smithwick SHAWVER
    2. Walter, if you are able to find this response, please email me directly [email protected] I am not sure what MR.Shawver you are refering to. My father is George A. Shawver II, he married Betty Smithwick. So you may see why I would like to get some information from Delta if anyone has it available. In the book "Hugh Smithwick's Descendants", Delta is given credit for encouraging Mr Daub Bennett to write the book. Naturally with both of my parents surnames in Delta's name I feel a connection to her, and would like to know more. I wrote her a letter in 1998 and again in 1999. Then later, I did hear from someone that she may have passed away. Do you know if she had any genealogy files that may have been donated to someone? Thanks for responding. Carol

    1. [TXJACK] Re: Eaves/Middleton
    2. Paula; The library, there at Jacksboro has some cemetery books, and they might make copies for you. I have pages copied from a book, "Jack County Cemetery Records" Vol 1, 1958-1959. Gibtown Cemetery On page 66 and 67, it lists the names beginning with "C", and the first of the "D"s. This is the way I found where several of my COX family were buried . And they write down what is written on the tombstone. For instance: COX, Louisa wife of Levi Sept 22, 1840 April 10, 1908. Hope this helps. If not, write to the Fort Worth Library, they will help you. The one I cannot find is the husband, Levi COX. Wanda

    1. [TXJACK] Eaves/Middleton
    2. Hello, My grandfather John Howard Eaves was born in Gibtown, Jack County, Texas. His father's name, I believe, was Andrew Eaves, married to "Mandy", or Amanda Middleton. I am interested in any information concerning this family, especially if anyone knows where they are buried or who their parents were. John (my grandfather) Eaves was married to Ada Mae Frost, also raised in Jack County. I would also be interested in information regarding the Frost family. Thank you in advance for your interest and assistance. Paula Roberts

    2. Lucy, thank you for posting the cemetery data. I have had that information for many years. My problem has been in learning the name of his parents. A year ago I had a break through on Wm H H Branum's family although I still do not know his mother's maiden name or the name of his father. I made contact with people that are descended from his step- father (which I didn't know abt) and even was sent a copy of a letter written in 1871 that mentions him, his mother, sister and brother. Thank You, Bettye

    1. [TXJACK] Re: Hicks Cemetery, need location
    2. Hicks Cemetery is about 8 miles north of Jacksboro on farm road 148, 1 mile East And South 1/2 mile in G. H. Jamison pasture. You have to get permission to go in. Thanks again for the help. It doesn't seem to be marked on any map, but from the directions I think I found it on an aerial photograph. There's a little square, maybe 75 by 100 feet, about 300 yards SW of some trees where there looks to be a Ranch House or maybe a barn. http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=10&T=1&X=2886&Y=18434&Z=14&W=0 Kind of a long load time on a slow modem. One click to the NE takes you to the "Ranch". Click the "-" to zoom out and see where the roads lay. Dan
