Paul Smith was right on how to get to Hicks Cemetery, when you turn off the pavement on to the dirt road you will go to the first cattle guard on the south side of the road (about 1mile from the pavement or your right) at this cattle guard or gate you will see a house about 100-200 feet to the east on the same side of the road, If the gate is locked go to this house and ask for the key, you need to tell them why you wont to go to the cemetery. After you get thru the gate you will go about 1/4 mile and find that the road will go to the left to an oil well.DO NOT GO TO THE LEFT go straight looking close for a road.(yes there is a road) as you follow the road it will curve to the right, cross a small creek, up a small hill and on top of the hill is the cemetery. My mom & dad are buried there. (Bailey) I also have other kin buried there. Hope this will help you. need any more info my e-mail is [email protected] George bailey

Joplin, known in the early days as Haley Springs. Listed as some of the early settlers have the following Mobley's listed: David Mobley, Bill Mobley, and Asberry Mobley. This Bill Mobley may or may not be your William Mobley, but looking at the time frame of this group he could be. In that most families traveled together, the other Mobley's listed at this location should as be checked for family connection to your William Mobley also.

If anyone has the e-mail address of the funeral homes in Jacksboro I would like to have them, thanks Larry [email protected]
If you have access to this Jack County History Book, could you please do a lookup on the Mitchell's? Specifically, W C Mitchell who married Sophronia Elizabeth Miller in 1881. They lived around the old DeGress township until her death around 1897 in or just after childbirth of Ollie Mitchell, whom I believe was raised and/or adopted by the Cherryhomes family. Other Mitchell kids were raised by James and Nathaniel Barnett from the Wise/Jack county area. If anyone knows info on ANY of these family names or can help solve the mystery of what happened to W C after the death of Sophie ( some called her Elizabeth ) and where either of them are buried, please get back with me. Thank you. I'll be sending info on a new email address within the next couple weeks. For now it is [email protected] or at the address of [email protected] Thanks, Linda Stokes - McCray
I am coping the following from the history of Jack County. It tells how tNathan Joseph and Levi Cox left David co in N Mo and gathered with a bunch more Cox relatives in November 1878 They traveled to several places and then "My father came back to Jack Co where Gibtown was latter built and composed mostly of the Cox families:to-wit: Nathan S, Joseph S, Levi, Sammy, James M, J>D> John Hayes and wife Mollie Cox Hayes, Sam Ewing and wife Lou Cox Ewing" and there are some more but that looks like all that came from Mo. This is an old book that is not in print any more and this article was witten by Joseph A Cox It looks as if he is the son of Nathan and Laura Harrison Cox. I will be going to Gibtown in a few weeks for homecoming and I might could get more information for you. Levi could well be buried at the Gibtown cemetary as so many there are Cox family. Sorry but I do not have time during the week to get to the courthouse. LaVonna Gates
There are still plenty of Cox family descendants in the Gibtown area. If you will email me personaly I will gather what information I can for you. I am gathering history on the fine people buried in that cemetary while I am not kin to the Cox family they have lived as neighbors with my family since 1880. LaVonna Gates
Would anyone by any chance have information on the following family? Isaac Ward b. 15 July 1824 in MO d. 23 May 1867 in Jack County, TX buried in Jacksboro, Jack county TX Isaac is the son of Joseph John Ward and Francis Vinson of Red River County TX Married (have no idea when or where) Artimeas (Artimicia) b. abt 1828 in probably Arkansas children: 1. James Joseph Ward b. abt 1850 in TX married Angeline Hensley on 6 Dec 1868 in Jack County TX 2. Lucinda Catherine Ward b. abt 1858 in TX (probably Jack County) married William James on 23 1873 in Jack County TX 3. Mary A. Ward b. abt 1860 in Jack county TX married J. W. Prevo on 5 May 1878 in Jack county TX 4. William Ambrose Ward b. 9 Nov 1862 in Jack County TX married Mary Paralee Ward on 5 Aug 1886 in Paris, Lamar County, TX (William and Mary are first cousins - my great grandparents) 5. Calvin DeWitt Ward b. abt 1865 in Jack county TX 6. Isaac B. Ward b. abt 1867 in Jack County TX 7. E. Belle Ward b. abt 1868 in Jack County TX I know that after Isaac's death, Artimeas (Artimicia) remarried 25 March 1869 in Jack county TX to William Hood. It looks as though the two of them were divorced on 13 September 1873 in Jack County TX. On 1 April 1882, J. J. Ward is the guardian of E. Belle Ward (brother and sister). Evidently Artimeas (Artimicia) has died. Belle is 14 at this time. I have tried to get the records of this out of Jack county but they can't seem to locate them. This is record #58 Miscellaneous Records. Lucille Garner inventoried this when she made her book. Other than this I have no idea who Artimeas (Artimicia) is, when or where she died or anything else about her. What has been passed down through the ages on this family is that Isaac was given this land under a Spanish land grant. I have not found anything that would support this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mary
Dear Jack County Loopers, I am looking for information on the above surname. After looking in an on-line phonebook, I know that there are still many many Amburns living in Jack County. I am certain most all of those Amburns are my family but do not know how to connect to all of them. If anyone is working on this family from Jack County (or there are Amburns from Jack Co. monitoring this Loop) I would love to hear from you as I have additional information and would love to meet new cousins. The first Amburn that came to Jack County is Thomas b.1820 in North Carolina. His son William Samuel b. 1858 in TN came with his wife Amanda Pool(e) whom he married and they had their first two children in IL. The children of Amanda and W. S. Amburn were: Flora Ann Laura Edgar Lillie Mrytle Fred Samuel Henry Thanks so much, K Jennings

Hi everyone, Am seeking information on the following family: John Wesley Ivester - b. 1871 Stoddard Co., Mo - d. 1944 Beckham Co., Ok md 1892 in Jack Co., Texas to Margaret Emily Carnahan - b. 1876 Carter Co., Mo - d. 1945 Beckham Co., Ok. John Wesley Ivester was the son of Asa Monroe Ivester and Mary Ann Jinkins. Asa Ivester died in Missouri. Mary Ann then married David Solomon in Missouri. David then died and Mary Ann Jinkins Ivester Solomon then moved to Jack Co. to live with her parents. There she met and married James Newton Carnahan on July 22, 1890 in Jack Co. Which leads me to the parents of Margaret Emily Carnahan. She was the daughter of James Newton Carnahan & Leo Dicia Johnston. The brought their younger children from Reynolds Co., Missouri to Jack Co., Texas around 1882. There Leo Dicia Johnston Carnahan died in 1887 and James Newton Carnahan then married Mary Ann Jinkins Ivester Solomon. Would love to visit with anyone searching the Ivester, Carnahan, or Jinkins lines in or around Jack Co., Texas. Thanks so much - take care - Emma

Nice to know there's a sign... I worry about getting out on the dirt roads in a car, but it shouldn't be too bad. I might be able to find a land deed (I think a relative has already looked up the probate records), as GGGrandparents Ratliff lived near there. It probably wouldn't do me much good without a map of some kind, so I'll probably have to visit the courthouse or an abstract company first. Thanks, Dan
