My grandfather, Charlie Clement, was born at Vinyard in Jack Co. 23 Aug 1890. His sister, Mary Ellen Clement married George Swetnam in Jack Co. in 1892, and died there 24 Sep 1893 from complications after giving birth to her child, Jesse William Swetnam, born 1 Sep 1893. My grandfather's parents, William and Etheldra Clement(s), had twin babies who died at birth in Vinyard about 1885. We did not find records of the births of my grandfather, nor for Jessee William Swetnam, however we did find the marriage record for Mary Ellen Clements and G. H. Swetnam on 8 Dec 1892, and the burial listing for Mary Ellen Swetnam, died 24 Sep 1893, and for Infants of Etheldra and W. Clements in the Wizard Wells Cemetery. We found the graves of Mary Ellen and the Clements Infants buried side by side in the Wizard Wells Cemetery in very distinct, identically marked graves. There are stone walls, two blocks high around each grave, with the tomestone enclosed in the rock walls. The area within the walls is filled in with dirt level with the top of the walls. There were several other graves in the Wizard Wells Cemetery with these same rock walls. Does anyone know the significance of these walls? I would like to make contact with Amy Defendis who placed the Swetnam family information on the Jack Co. Webpage to see if the George Swetnam who married Mary Ellen is related to her family. Our George Swetnam married again about 1899, probably in Indian Territory. He is listed on the 1900 Indian Territory Census with a new wife named Rhoda, son Jesse, age 6, and son Floyd, age 4 months. The census records say George was born 1867 in Missouri. George lived for a while in the Carter Co. OK area before moving to the Pittsburg Co. OK. I want to thank all of the wonderful people who assisted us in Jack Co. - the women in the county clerks office and at the public library for all of their kind help, and the gentlemen at the Green Frog Restuarant for giving us directions to the Wizard Wells Cemetery. Thanks to everyone we had a successful day.

You said you were trying to do some research of the early settlers. I am trying to find some information about this family. According to the book, "History of Jack County Texas", F203. Nathan S., Joseph S. ,Levi Cox left Daviess County MO.in November of 1876, for Texas. And settled in what was later Gibtown Nathan and Joseph, and Lucinda were children of Thomas Cox, who died in 1843. Thomas was the son of Nathan Cox, who died 1854. NOW, LEVI COX b. Feb 12, 1838 was my Grgrgrrandfather. I need somebody, ANYBODY to please help me find what relation he was to these two men he was traveling with. I later found a document in the Jack County probate where Levi swore an oath that he was a brother to Samuel W. 'Sammy" Cox, but wanted nothing from the estate of Sammy or Mary Cox, his wife. If this be the case, who were the parents of Samuel, and Levi? I found the gravestones of S.W.Cox, and Mary Cox, wife of S.W. What happened to Levi? He was living with James R. Cox and his wife Liza in 1910. And I have a snapshot of Levi, taken in 1924, in front of my Grandmother's house in Jacksboro. After that he dissappears. I cannot find where he died, or where he is buried. Can someone Please help me? Wanda Haines in Oklahoma
