Of course, the college I knew as ETSTC has grown into quite a large university today. It was also common for people to take in roomers and boarders. Widows especially did this to eke out a living. In fact my grandmother operated a boarding house in Commerce for a while back in the twenties. In addition, Boles Orphans Home, located 13 miles south of Greenville, housed upwards of 300 children in dormitories at one time. It is now known as Boles Childrens Home and houses some 50 children in family style cottages.
