I went out yesterday after having bought a TON of tools - the COUNTY was in there working! I was so happy that I ran up to the foreman and was just gushing, I know that my response made them all feel they were doing something really important. They are more than halfway finished with the larger stuff... they were using... a brushhog? Not sure but it was really getting at the little trees and things... and they had convicts doing the manual labor. I kept hearing them yell because there was holes, and markers falling into the ground, and snakes, of course. It was pretty scary, I know, for them. I started working behind them while I was gathing transcriptions and photos, with my hand tools, it was really hard work but I got a lot of new information. I am going to pick up a packet of document on the Hopewell Cemetery (coming from a Hunt County Commissioner) at the library tomorrow, you might want to contact me if you aren't finding what you need, I may have it then. :-) I am up to the name MITCHELL now but may be adding some "orphan" files as I go... Will be going back, probably on Saturday to pick up where I left off, much of the cemetery has not been touched yet. I really hope that somebody will take over some of the upkeep of the cemetery - when it is finally free from the vegetation, I would really hate to see it look like it was again. It is very hard to get the county in there and you have to stay on top of it... I am hoping that maybe some of the families might take an interest in it. Okay, all of that said, here is the link to what I have up so far, I am still adding to it... and it may be awhile before I get it all up... but I'm working on it, rest assured! http://www.rootsweb.com/~txhunt/hopewell.html I really hope this helps you! What are the names you are looking for? I might respond before I post if I know, (it might help you get what you need faster because I am trying to do them alphabetically)... to let you know when those names have been transcribed and documented with photos. :-) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
