I think they came from Illinois and somehow ended up in Hunt County. Mary Ann Smith (m. Charles Harris) died young and her children were parceled out to others to raise. Mary Ann's daughter, Luna Belle, married my great-grandfather - Rice Prettyman Knowles of Hunt Co. I have lots of information on the Knowles family. I didn't look like your family meshes with mine - at least I don't have enough information to form a link, although, family lore has it that Luna Belle was part Indian. That goes with your information, but I can't link it together.
