    3. George W. Hackney Services Tuesday at Celeste Church George W. Hackney, 91, of RR 2, Greenville, died at 5:30 PM Sunday, October 31, 1965, in a Greenville nursing home. He was born August 8, 1874, in Jonesville, Virginia, and came to Hunt County in 1904 and has lived here since that time. Most of his residence in the county has been in the Celeste, Merit, and Greenville areas. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lee Hackney. He married Margaret Bishop on January 18, 1902. She preceded him in death in 1961. He was a retired groceryman and farmer and taught school in Virginia before coming to Hunt County. He was a member of the Celeste Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Humphries of Denver, Colorado; four sons, Paul Hackney of Bonham, DeWitt Hackney and George Hackney of Celeste, and James Hackney of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Rainey Graham of Greenville and Ms. Robert Kilman of Fort Worth; one brother, A. M. Hackney of Celeste; forty grandchildren (including Celeste students Georgann Hackney, Martha Hackney, Linda Hackney, Mark Hackney, David Hackney, and Gary Hackney) and seventeen great-grandchildren (including Jeffrey Babers of Celeste). Funeral services were at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Celeste Methodist Church with Rev. C. B. Garrett, the Rev. Bill Davis, and the Rev. Albert Click officiating. Burial was in Memoryland Memorial Park, Greenville. Grandson served as pallbearers. (November 5, 1965, The Celeste Courier)
