    3. Hello, List. Can someone tell me how far back birth or death certificates can be ordered for different countries in Texas? I am trying to find one in Freestone county that goes back to 1881 or earlier. Thanks, Jo Ann

    3. Youd be better off contacting the county itself, unless of course that county was combined with another. In that case, youd need to contact the county who it was absorbed into.     3. Hi Jo Ann, Birth certificates weren't required until 1903 so that is the earliest year the state has records for. However, birth records were kept in family Bibles and other such family record books.
