Researching my STROM ancestry and would appreciate any information on the family of William Strom (b. abt. 1830) son of John Strom & Lucy Hough. William married Elcy Jane Bean 2-18-1857 in Pike Co. AL. Their children were John E., William, Minnie, Hezakiah & Moses. I have tracked Elcy and sons J.E. and Moses to Hunt Co. TX. They are all three buried in East Mount Cemetery in Greenville. John Strom and my 4Great-GM Elizabeth Strom were siblings. Elizabeth Strom was married to Stephen Terry in SC and later moved to Pike Co. AL. Thanks much. Linda

Possibly the daughter Louisa is my grt-grt gm I've tried to find prior to her marriage to unknown Cogburn. She was reportedly born in east TX abt 1854. James & Sarah were both 38 and born in GA. The children all born in TX -- Louisa, age 16; looks like "Sis"??, age 14; James, 5; a 6 yr old female whose name begins with "C". If this is my family Louisa was in Howard Co Ark 1880, already widowed and remarried to Adam Whisenhunt; my grt gf Wm I., age 8, and 3 of his half siblings. Wm's father died before he was born, placing that death between July 1871 and April 1872. I do not know his father's name, approx age or anything other than he may have died in some kind of accident with a horse according to an elderly gret aunt some years ago before she passed away. They were not listed on this census, if this is the correct family and if our guestimate is correct, but we think Louisa had a brother named Gerd or Jerd, possibly a nickname ... Gerald, Jerald??? We also think she had nephews by the name of Ed & Charlie White. Louisa and Adam took their family from Ark "back" to Hunt Co if this is the same and then moved on to Taylor Co; at least one of the above nephews lived in south TX, Willacy. If anyone might have info on this Hunt Co family I found in the census or the one I know to be mine, I would surely appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Sandra

I know this may be a long shot This might be a clue possibly! G. Evans Double funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Celeste First Baptist Church for Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Evans of the White Rock community. Rev. Earl Allen, pastor of the Celeste Baptist Church conducted the services and burial was in the Celeste Cemetery with James-Coker-Peters directing. Pallbearers were Hugh Howan, Charles Stone, Weldon Prince, Troy Prince, Roy Stapleton, Ed Morton, R. L. Rouser, Warren Brumley, Gene Moss, Kenneth Prince, Robert Holloway, and Scott Wright. The entire community was shocked when Mr. Evans died from a heart attack about 4:30 PM Friday, November 11, and Mrs. Evans died of a similar attack the following Saturday morning, November 12, 1955. The couple had gone to Ladonia on Veterans’ Day to see the Celeste-Ladonia football game when Mr. Evans became suddenly ill. He saw a doctor in Ladonia and started home, but decided he would stop by the Wolfe City Hospital and see another doctor. The doctor came to the car and had just told Mr. Evans he would probably be all right, but if not, to come back to the hospital, when a fatal attack struck him. Mrs. Evans and a son, Ralph Evans, were in the car with him at the time. On Saturday morning, Mrs. Evans and other members of the family had gone to Greenville and made funeral arrangements for her husband at James-Coker-Peters Funeral Home when she suffered a heart attack. The family had left the funeral home to go to the home in White Rock and Mrs. Evans was stricken when they reached downtown Greenville. Ralph Evans was sitting in the car with his mother when death came, just as he was with his father. The couple was married on December 4, 1911. They were members of the Baptist Church and both were active in church and community affairs. The operated a combination grocery store and service station at White Rock. They are survived by two sons, Ralph Evans, a Celeste merchant, and Eugene Evans, who is serving with the US Armed Forces in Korea and who arrived home Wednesday for the services; three daughters, Mrs. Sherman Wright, Wolfe City, Mrs. W. H. Wright, White Rock, and Mrs. Frank Pursell, Fort Worth; and seventeen grandchildren. Mrs. Evans was a native of Celeste, the former Katie Lou Fitzwater, born on August 5, 1895. Her parents were Tom Fitzwater and Lela Webb Fitzwater. Mr. Evans, a native of Alabama, was born on May 6, 1891, the son of B. L. Evans and Adrey Thompson Evans. When he was a child, his parents brought him to Texas and he had since made his home in Celeste and White Rock. Mr. Evans’ survivors besides his children are two sisters, Mrs. Maud Mock of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Dora Moore of Lamesa; four brothers, Martin Evans of Westville, Oklahoma, Chilton Evans of Refugio, Texas, Fred Evans of Dallas, and J. B. Evans of Winnsboro. Mrs. Evans leaves one brother, George Fitzwater of Corpus Christi; and seven sisters, Mrs. Ethel Quinton, Mrs. Gladys Jackson, and Mrs. Katherine Jones, Dallas; Mrs. Babe Hite and Mrs. Barney Oldfield, Alto Loma; Mrs. Birdie Ramsey, Corpus Christi; and Mrs. Martha Joe Hilger, Greenville. Can anyone direct me to a way in which I can gain access to early HUNT CO. cemetery directories, or parish records, or obits for late 1990s-1920? I'm missing several members who are thought to be in the Clinton cemetery, and two couples who married in Hunt Co. (25 SEPT 1904) ZONIA OZONIA BENNEFIELD m THOMAS FREDRICK JENKINS They died in early 1960s. MARY MATILDA ADELINE BEDINGFIELD's #2 husband was George W. BEAM. They married here and died here, too. MARY ADELINE BENNEFIELD m JAMES L. CHILDRESS on 23 JUN 1901. I'm on the hunt,,,,oh pardon that pun,,,,for records or directions that might help me find them. Cassandra

The problem is the page has been copied so many times that many words cannot be read. I am hoping that some of you of the SIMMONS-ROBNETT family have a better copy. The page is the obituary for William Cowden SIMMONS b 1840 in Green Co, MO and died in Yowell, Hunt Co, March 7, 1916, and his wife Mary Clay ROBNETT SIMMONS, d Sunday, May 19, 1918. It is obvious that the two are clippings from newspapers and were placed side by side to be copied. Both are signed by a "W. E. Mangum". The obits are very personal as he knew them well. The only clue as to where the obits may have been published comes in the statement: "Mr. Simmons was a charter member of our R. E. Lee Camp No. 231 U. C. V's Commerce, Texas." I have tried locating the obits at Greenville's library but there are no newspapers on microfilm for those dates. Are there any surviving records from the Lee Camp U. C. V's that might include the same obituary? Have any of you seen other obits by W. E. Mangum? Do any of you have clear copies that can be read? No, I am sorry to say. Their daughters were Margaret born 1835, and Amanda E born about 1831; all children born from John Hamilton were born in TN. Thanks so much for your response.
