    3. >From today's Hood County News: GRANBURY'S REENACTMENT AT NEW LOCATION IN OCT. The "War Against Northern Aggression" is moving farther South this year. The 6th annual Granbury’s Civil War Reenactment will take place October 2 – 3 at the new Prairie Creek Battlefield, 10 miles southwest of Granbury off Hwy 51—five miles past the Cheyne Ranch. For the second year, Mission Granbury, a non-profit group formed as a "community response to domestic violence and families in crisis," is sponsoring the two-day event. The Granbury reenactment has been touted as the largest Civil War reenactment in Texas and features battles fought by Granbury’s namesake, General Hiram B. Granbury. Battles to be reenacted this year include the Battle for Atlanta, which was fought in July 1864, and the Battle of Allatoona, Ga., which was fought in October 1864. The reenactment will focus on the impact of the Civil War on families with an emphasis on the roles of women in aiding soldiers on both sides of the battlefield and how the war affected children. Historians will present educational lessons as well as tours of the reenactors’ authentic military encampments. Other activities include fashion shows of the 1860s, a Civil War-era social and dance, historical musical entertainment and off-post sutler shops that sell Civil War necessities for men and women. In addition to the new location, new to this year’s event will be a candlelight memorial service on Saturday night, honoring those who lost their lives during the Civil War. The reenactment grounds will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Sunday. Reduced-price advance tickets are available at the convention and visitors bureau. For more information, call 573-5549.
