    3. In the late 1980s George Martin loaned his funeral records to the Hood County Genealogical Society for the record to be copied. At that time they were hand copied by HCGS members Merle McNeese, Odessa Purselly and Tommye Hiler. These records have proven to be a very important source of genealogical information to visitors to the HCGS Archives at the Granbury Depot. An Index to these records has now been created by HCGS member Syvilla Lemons so that this information is now available to internet web users.     3. In 1891 Thorp Spring was the birthplace of Brigadier General Claudius Miller Easley "Speck." General Easley was killed in action in Okinawa in 1945 during World War II when commanding the 325th Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Infantry Division. He was honored with burial in the Arlington National Cemetery. Somervell County was created and organized from Hood County and Bosque County in 1875. This listing identifies State or Confederate soldiers from Johnson County serving in the military during 1863 to 1865 who were either killed or disabled and their dependent family members.     3. The Hood County Genealogical Society is pleased to bring you new biographical information on William Thomas Sellars, 1841-1905, a Hood County military veteran of the Civil War. Sellars saved his future brother-in-law's life in the Civil War while serving in the Missouri Cavalry. Later he moved to Granbury where he owned a business on the north side of the Granbury Square in the building now known as The Downtown Store. Sellars' name is on a brass doorplate in front of this building. William Thomas Sellars is buried in Granbury Cemetery. The information was written by Sellars' grandson who died about 25 years ago. W.     3. In 1867 Abel Landers was the first elected County Judge of Hood County, and he served several terms. Landers was an experienced Missouri legislator whose style and influence shaped early Hood County. His date of birth is unknown, but he was an adult in 1838.     3. Many of us have read History of Hood County, published in 1895, written by Thomas Taylor Ewell. Yet few of us know much about the author himself. Learn about how Ewell was a private soldier during the Civil War, participated in major battles and became a prisoner of war as a civilian. Ewell came to Granbury in the 1870's, practiced law, and was one of the original founders of Granbury College.
