I just talked to my cousin Joyce (Andrews) Sandlin (b. 1928) who grew up in the Prairie Valley area. She said there were several schools in the area because most children had to walk to school: Prairie Valley School, McCowan Valley School in SW part of county, Red Point School on E side of county, Liberty Hill School, Tarver School close to Peoria, Culp School E of Aquilla. She attended Liberty Hill, then Prairie Valley. Prairie Valley's highest grade was sophomore. After completing her sophomore year at Prairie Valley, she and her classmates were bussed to Whitney High School to complete the junior and senior years. My dad Charley Worley (b. 1918) also grew up in the area. He said he went to school at the age of 5, walking about 2-1/2 miles to Liberty Hill, a rural school. The school was located on three acres of land with two classrooms--one for grades 1-4 and the other for grades 5-8. After completing the 8th grade, he went to the Prairie Valley School. After that, he went to Whitney High School. At that time, there were only 11 grades. He was teacher/principal in the Lebanon Common School District in Hill Co. in 1940-41. It was a one-teacher, one-room school. Charlotte Haris
