We made a trip back east in 1993 and visited the Old Woodbury Cemetery. It was in pretty bad shape then. I was told that a farmer who had bought the acreage had tried to plough it under. We found the headstone of our 2 gr grandmother, Mary Matilda Reeves Benton Climer. Our gr grandfather was Sully Reeves Benton. After the death of his father Erasmus Benton in E Carroll Par LA in 1858, his mother married James M Climer. The family moved to Hill Co about 1867. Sully's brother George W Benton was a physician in Woodbury until his death in 1908. Sully married Bettie Nunn, daughter of William M Nunn of Hill Co, she was born in Hill Co in 1854. We first found the headstone for James Climer. Mary's was nearly entirely buried, but recognizing his name we searched and finally uncovered her headstone. It was a very emotional experience. Such a shame that there are so many abandoned graveyards all over the country and such a shame that so many have no respect for them. Ellen
