Johnston was married to Margaret M. Garrett in Benton County Arkansas 24th day of Sept. 1871. His mother was Martha Belle Frazier m. Thomas Johnston in Ark. After Thomas died, Martha (Patsy) Belle moved to Hill County TX and lived with her son, J. J. Johnston. She died in Hill County in 1909.
